So if USA SBRs an island airbase (for 3 damage) then the UK and ANZAC can attack the surrounding sea zones without japan being able to scramble aircraft since Japan won’t be able to repair (since they havent had a turn yet, and then of course they can repair it on their next turn)

  • @Krieghund:

The reference in the rules to Australia being an exception for purposes of ICs not being able to be built on islands is a mistake.

Razor want to smite the editor on this one. How hard can it be to make a clear and rational rulebook ?

You are one clever guy. Lets just hope nobody will take advantage of this rule flaws and be gamey.

  • Thanks djensen for posting the rules in advance so we can discuss and clarify!

From reading the first part of the rules, i have two questions:

    1. “Aircraft that scramble cannot participate in another battle.”  Does this mean that those aircrafts used in a scramble cannot be used during the players normal combat/non combat movement phase?

    2. “A kamikaze may target any naval ship except transports.” I just wanted to double check to see if this is correct?

  • @shohoku201:

Remember that scrambling fighters are defending. And I dont think defending units have combat and non-combat movement phases, since it is not their turn. They are just defending. It is the attacker that enjoy combat and non-combat phases. Basically fighters scrambling from island bases have the same mechanic as interceptor fighters defending during Stratecig Bombing Raids. They defend an adjacent space. I think the cause to this irresolutiones lies in the old CAP(combat air patrol) rule from the old A&A Pacific, where the cap-fighters had to move to the seazone during their non-combat phases, and land in their combat phases. I like this new rule better, man.

Yes of course it is correct. Do you know any incident where a kamikaze sank a cargoship ? And please let Razor amuse us with his in-depth analyze of the rational behind this rule. Okey, shohoku201, lets pretend you are an kamikaze pilot, who will crash his plane into an enemy ship, an action that is most likely to end his life. He might choose between a famous battleship or a poor tranny. Tell us, wich of the ships would you prefer to sacrife your life to sink ? This is how it works. Nobody want to die for a poor tranny.

    LMFAO!

  • regarding kamikazes, i brought this up because of the departure from AAP.

sources for sunken and damaged ships sustained from kamikaze attacks vary.  but transport ships were also targeted.

  • When you say Mech Infantry cannot blitz unless acompanied by a tank what does this mean?
A: They can’t use their second movement space without a tank period?
B: They can’t attack two spaces away without a tank?
C: They can’t move through an empty hostile space without stopping unless they are with a tank?

  • Does the tank and the mech have to start from the same territory or could they merge into the first vacant one?

I’ll check the rule book when I get home.

  • I am from Holland and I picked up the game today.
I find the diplomacy rules quite confusing.
What I understand is that UK/ANZAC can attack Japan first (after Japan left them alone on its own turn) and when they do they are at war with Japan but USA is not at war with Japan. BUT if Japan counterattacks UK/ANZAC after that they automatically drag the USA into the war. That cannot be right???
Can someone shade a light on this for me?

  • Official Q&A

Japan may certainly defend itself if it is attacked.  It is free to attack UK or ANZAC without provoking war with the US, as long as Japan was attacked by them first.  This will be in the FAQ.

  • Ok, thanks Krieghund. This makes a lot more sense. The rulebook is rather unclear on this point.

  • Krieg I have a question regarding airbases/scramble. From what i understand an island is a 1 territory surrounded by 1 sea zone. Japan is an island and Australia is not. I’m ok with that. I see Australia as very large and is considered a continent anyway.
What I was wondering about is the Euro side (I know I’m jumping the gun.) By this rule UK would not be able to scramble.(2 tt multiple sz). Size wise Japan and England are comparable.  Most consider them both to be island nations. Is there going to be an exception, as the UK was very good at defending its coast with the RAF. Especially when you consider its radar was much more advanced then Japans lack there of.

On a side note are there going to be any wep dev involving bases. It would be really cool if say radar now allowed you to scramble from any airbase to def land/sea that is adjacent. I know that would be very powerful, but would be self limiting due # of bases.
