So I’m wrong. Oh well.
Thoughts on invading neutrals?
-
@superbattleshipyamato I have taken Switzerland a few times myself, but I am less eager to do so than I used to be since I am not always convinced that it is worth the effort to widen the French front when it widens my own at the same time, especially if I am trying to stall as I beat up on the Russians. Afghanistan though… I can’t say I’ve ever gone for it. I myself would rather have those units moving west toward Mesopotamia than diverted for 1 IPC, though if the Ottomans are already out of the game and your units are sitting there then I may.
-
In addition to what was already said (Persia/Afghanistan/Switzerland), USA attacking Spain is more or less a mandatory move in most games, as it gives them 4 uncontested income, bringing them to an even 24 IPC economy and thus letting them funnel 8 INF a turn (or whatever combination of units you want) across the Atlantic to help out.

Really? Attacking Spain seems really hard and unnecessary. I don’t think the US needs the extra income. I’ll try it myself.
-
@superbattleshipyamato I agree. I could see the benefit of invading Spain with OOB rules, since that does save the US a full two turns of transport time. I play tournament rules and simply drop my units off in Marseilles or Picardy unless I need to bring them somewhere more specific (such as a struggling Egypt or even Constantinople). Can’t say I’ve ever tried invading Spain, but I my interest is piqued.

@superbattleshipyamato
Afghanistan , Persia, Switzerland and Spain is the list of neutrals that should be attacked every game. Switzerland is a very important center of the map territory. Afghanistan for extra British income turn 1. Persia turn 2 for GB. Spain should be hit turn 4 by the US and then finished off with French troops on France turn 5 or by a 2nd American attack on turn 5. -
I agree.
-
@superbattleshipyamato @Tamer-of-Beasts either of you guys wanna play a game? TripleA and you can pick your side. Totally friendly game.
-
@the_good_captain I’d love to but there isn’t a TripleA game for 1914 that I am aware of, unless you found one. If you did, definitely hit me up1! :)
-
@tamer-of-beasts there most
Definitely is
One! -
@theveteran I wonder how I’ve missed it. The only one I found is one that doesn’t work. What is the title and who is the creator of the game?

Agreed. The only one is broken. Still, I’m very open to finding out a fixed version.
If you’re wondering, as the US I invaded Spain and succeeded. The game already turned against the Allies at this point though.
-
@superbattleshipyamato @Tamer-of-Beasts it works with some very light edits. @Tamer-of-Beasts are you down for a game?
-
@the_good_captain I’m down, though I am not sure how to go about the edits.
-
@tamer-of-beasts the edits arent too bad. tripleA won’t let you keep units in the same territory as your enemy without rolling combat so you have to edit your guys out and usually replace them with “true neutral” units so that combat wont be rolled in that contested territory where you just want to play defense. also the engine doesnt allow for the subs to submerge past round 1 when they are the defending unit. also tripleA without editing doesnt let you move your fighter 2 spaces through an enemy force or across a seazone (UK to picardy for example).
-
after the combat phase is over you edit out the true neutrals and replace them with your nations dudes again. the Good captain will fill you in and help out. you also have to edit the map manually if the russian revolution is triggered. another one is that if the british capture belgium from the germans then the game gives control of belgium to the British but that territory should always go to France.
-
@theveteran thanks!
-
@tamer-of-beasts you’re welcome. ive played 11 games of 1914 on tripleA with @The_Good_Captain and im on game 6 of 1914 on tripleA with @Ragnell804

Download the file from this link and then follow the instructions below. Let me know if that gets it working. https://www.mediafire.com/file/6l8ni5rzkruakro/world_war_i_1914.zip/file
You have to move the unzipped map to the downloadedMaps folder in the folder where you installed Triplea. Reboot the game and look for 1914.
-
Thanks! I’ll try it sometime.
Oh, a few questions before we start:
Keep in mind I only played the game a few times and only against myself, so expect me to blunder like crazy.
Are these the original rules?
Which side is the game unbalanced towards? Make me that side (as in, the one that has an advantage because the game isn’ perfectly balanced).
