Since it works this way, can we alter it in Edit mode? Have the force I sent to Crete land in Greece instead?

I believe you haven’t landed from the sea, that is why there was no bombardment?
With regards to the change of the move, I think that it is a bit late after the “die is cast” :) Maybe if you want to keep the first round of dice and edit two additional units into the battle now. Not sure it is possible to edit them this way?

@nikola1975 Yeah but I landed from the sea in other places (the two Med islands). I did my turn based on the understanding that I would be able to bombard in Greece. That was clearly wrong, and my bad. Like I said, rust to shake off.
I did want to keep the first round of dice as they are - they have been cast, as you noted. This is the way. However, I wanted to add to them - throwing in the dice from an additional Inf and Art as well as the bombards. Unless things go very wildly, this should wipe out the Greece defense, but their amazing defense rolls would still stand. This would also mean that I don’t take Crete this round.
Is this acceptable?

Sure, let’s do it that way. There is some way to simulate the dice throw in the forum, you can check how to do that and proceed.

I found a “roll dice” command in TripleA, so I’ll use that. I’ll roll 1 die first for the battleship, then 2 for the cruisers, then 2 for the Inf and Art if needed.
