@hanhatcher it finally just got over the line but it was touch and go the second time round. Not sure why but it struggled to attract backers
Matrix Games

I happened upon the Matrix Games website. The search function didn’t seem to want to cooperate with me so I couldn’t locate a previous topic on this.
Is anyone familiar with their games?
-
too complicated. Who has time for this?
People with no problems about spending 100 hours learning how to play.

You have played one of their games and found it too complicated or it simply appears too complicated?
-
Whoa…I didn’t expect PC games. Was thinking board games.
I see they redo games, I think. Close Combat was one of my favorite PC games of all time, and favorite WW2 game. Their updated one brings back memories. It looks good.
-
I think IL does have a point that the games seem overly complicated but that doesn’t mean they are overly complicated. I was just getting a Panzer General vibe off them and wondered if anyone here had actually played them.
-
Yes Panzer General was not bad nor was close Combat. These games are like 10 levels higher than these.
Its too much micromanagement of rubbish that its just too overwhelming.
I do have hearts of Iron 1 and 2 and these are just too much to deal with.
-
I don’t mind minutae but micro does get to be a bit much.
-
Hearts of Iron 2 was the most time consuming & detailed game I’ve ever seen. I liked it for that, but it was just too much for me. I wish I had the time.
Close Combat is far from that intensity though. It’s way more tactical than logistical. You focus more on the battle, which is real time, than you do with keeping up with your forces. You get to build your battle group, retire, hire, reinforce, etc., but the core of the game is winning battles. I highly recommend it.

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is a good and moderately complicated game. It is far easier than HOI2.
-
Both GGWW and HOI2 are very good. If you want a short campaign as one of the mayors, play GGWW. If you want a larger, roleplaying and more complex campaign as a minor, play HOI2 (in fact, is not very difficult when you get used). I suggest a mid power as Spain, Romania, Canada or such as starting with HOI2
However, don’t play HOI3 :-P Is buggy, ahistorical and uberslow (from that many in Paradox forums say, and I seen screens of Mexico doing D-Day in Kiel in 1940 :-o), a backstep from HOI2. HOI3 follows the same wrong path they started with EUIII
-
Is their any game like AA that is not more complicated ?
besides the trip A site?
-
Electronic or board? I’ve seen a couple WW2 board games recently that look pretty cool but haven’t played them.
-
Have you ever played Military Madness or the later version called Nectaris, they started out on the Turbo Grafix system.

Nope, but I’ve got a copy of Iron Storm for Sega Saturn that I’d be willing to part with.

Oh ya I remember that game I remember getting really pissed playing Germany in the D-Day scenario because you were forced to have one of your armies game controlled and the AI’s strategy was terrible and thus you could just not win that scenario, or at least I couldn’t.
-
I played Military Madness!
-
Military Madness rocked! That was the reason I even bought the Turbo Grafx16.
Here is a link dedicated to the game:

Military Madness: Nectaris was just released (today? yesterday?) on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 points ($10). May have to pick it up and check it out.

If you like turn based strategy games, then you’ll love this game.
