You could be right about the mixing of old and new pieces. I have the original 50th anniversary edition, and have got to say that some of the pieces were miss formed and not of great quality. I have switched those out with other pieces. Since I own every edition except for 1940 Pacific, I can say that the older game pieces were of much better quality…but you need the newer games to get those newer sculpts, so it is a challenge to have it both ways. Anyway good luck, and hope you enjoy “anniversary “. It, and along with the original “Pacific 2000” are my favorite editions
Krieghund: please comment on the storage boxes for the pieces

I was wondering from the pictures that the boxes have individual flaps for each nations pieces and they are in connected trays for easy storage.
Can you elaborate on the design?
are the lids fixed or is it just a cover?
do they snap in place?
how many trays for each nation?
I know that cant be top secret information.

Sorry, I haven’t actually seen one of them in person.

gee wiz. and i thought you were the answer guy.

Just for you, IL, I got Larry to describe the boxes for me.
There are eight of them - one for each country and two general purpose ones. The lids are covers. They all feature montage pictures of WW-II gear, newspaper headlines, etc. The country ones have the country’s name and Control Marker symbol on them. Each box has three interior compartments of equal size.
This picture from BGG shows the boxes inside the game box: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/362526

OK that’s much better. My main thing was whether the covers just ‘sit’ on top or do they attach somehow to the trey. In MB you had to keep the box even or the crap would fall out of those cheesy white foam trays. Hopefully this is an improvement.

The lids don’t actually attach to the box. They’re a standard box and lid with full side overlap, just like the game box. However, it seems like they’re tightly-packed enough in the game box that spillage won’t be a problem.

Very very good thing :-)

I would rather get nation specific Italian units, than lids with pictures of WWII gear.
A lid mold cost the same as a piece mold. This was bad use of mold money.

The new picture gives you a better Idea of how the boxes look and work… (Also posted elsewhere on this forum)
