I feel like I just read the Axis & Allies edition of Moby Dick
Any News?

So I don’t know that I’ve ever been around for an early release. Seems I always come at things like 2 or 3 years late. What exactly does it entail? Can just go to steam and buy/download the thing tomorrow? If so sounds great! Or do I gotta do something else beforehand?
Are the internal forums up yet? Or they launch at the same time? I didn’t catch a link
Is it up at midnight? cause I don’t have work tomorrow haha

Yes, it is that easy. :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t know your timezone. According to Steam we can expect it at about 16:00 UTC.

Update from my end.
Tried to log on to Steam and buy it 3 hours ago (before heading out to work). At that time, is said it’d be up in about 6 hours, so about 3 hours from now (give or take) the game should be up.
-
We plan to go live in 2.5 hours.

@JuliusBorisovBeamdog
Now it is announced for about 17:00 UTC.I realized that the system requirements now demand a minimum of 6 GB RAM.
Will it be unplayable with only 4 GB? -
@Panther You might try, but our developers were running into issues where it would get into a loading loop, thus we bumped requirements. However, our next build update should include some performance improvements that may make 4GB viable again (but we can’t promise it).

@JuliusBorisovBeamdog
All right then, this might speed up my decision to buy a new NB/PC with at least 16 GB. -
Not going to be out of work for another 8 hours or so (long story), but looking forward to finally diving in later tonight.
-
You can buy it now.
I just bought it for 15,11 Euro.
-
It’s launched, but we’re investigating a problem with the .exe file. https://steamcommunity.com/games/898920/announcements/detail/1616148671791463021

@JuliusBorisovBeamdog
I have not downloaded it yet - I hope you get it sorted soon :slightly_smiling_face: -
Seems that has been solved now. :)

OK, on my 4GB machine it starts and loads. I have gone through part one of the tutorial so far. It does not run smoothly but it’s ok given that the requirement is 6 GB. I will play around with the settings, maybe I can optimize gameplay a bit. I am happy that it works so far … :slightly_smiling_face:
-
@Panther Hard to believe the requirement is 6GB. Looking at the graphics, I can’t imagine its that which is taking so much memory but makes you wonder what is. I think you can probably run 42 on TripleA pretty smoothly with less than 1 GB.

@redrum
I have no idea what is that RAM consuming, either.
I mean it is likely that Electron/JS apps are more RAM consuming than Java apps, but I am too little an expert on this to further speculate. -
We will be deploying a hot fix to Axis & Allies 1942 Online later today to address the main concerns of online multiplayer stability and the gameplay speed.
A short outage is planned for this patch at 1pm PDT today. Login to the game will be unavailable during the update.
-
@JuliusBorisovBeamdog Sweet. Looking forward to another go at things later tonight.
-
The fix is live!

Sounds good, will check it out when I get home.
I know lot of people were struggling to stay connected.Speaking of which, any word on the inclusion of a chat feature?
I think that should really be a top priority before any full release. There are many popular board games I can think of that don’t really require players to interact much outside of the gameplay itself, but A&A just isn’t one them.
You may have noticed for example that many people who bought the pre-release are returning to Axis and Allies after a rather long hiatus. I saw peeps on the steam forums talking about the excitement of coming back to this after like 10 or 20 years. Many may not have played this game since Classic and the old hasbro CD. They will be looking to other players to bring them up to speed on what’s happened since and how the game has changed etc. A no chat rip and run style of play might work for something like RISK, where the rules and basics have remained largely unchanged over the years, and where there is pretty broad popularity among casual gamers. But A&A is its own kind of beast, and players really need an easy way to talk to each other in game.

I personally passed your extensive feedback (thanks for that, btw) to the dev team, and the communication feature request is top on the list of community feature requests. The devs will triage them.
