Technical Question: AAO and Steam
-
@JuliusBorisovBeamdog
Will it be possible to install AAO without all that Steam software overhead? -
@Panther I don’t believe so.

Thanks,

There is only one way to atone for this crime against humanity …

@Gargantua Haha, being totally aware of the marketing concept behind, I was just
askinghoping … Other software developers sometimes sell a standalone version next to a Steam version. For example the good old Empire Deluxe (Combined Edition).I would be happy to even pay a higher price for a standalone version if that prevented me from installing hundreds of megabytes of more or less unrelated Steam stuff.
Just searching for an escape… :wink:

hundreds of megabytes
It’s really not that bad, it’s only about 900MB for Steam. :wink:
Oh, and I think that includes AAO.
-
@djensen Yes it is that relation likely. Years ago I had that Steam client installed with another game. It was about 1GB including the game that had about 400 MB.
Personally, I am a fan of clean computer systems having an eye on what is installed and what is active in the background - so I am not a fan of the Steam client with its background processes and inbound and outbound traffic … but that is of course totally irrelevant for most of the users.And being a fan of Axis&Allies and AAO, too, I will buy the game and install it (happily) - even together with Steam (reluctantly however). :smiley:
-
I don’t mind having steam to do the DL, but after that, steam goes bye-bye. After that, would I be able to play AAO? Or just a waste of $?
-
You can’t play Steam games without launching Steam, usually. This game won’t be an exclusion.

@CrazyIvan My speculation is that the more the game sells the more likely the possibilities for the future. Mac Store? Windows Store? Why not? (Again, pure speculation about the long term).
