• In a free for all game, my money is on Germany.

They are the most compact in terms of territory, the highest number of starting units, and they have a good opportunity to make substantial territorial gains early.

    UK would be the weakest.

  • 2007 AAR League

Yeah my thoughts are Russia, Britain should get several techs, I like what Jen suggested earlier on
    Russia:

    Railway National Advantage
    Mobile Industry National Advantage

    Bonus: Salvage National Advantage
    Bonus: Non-aggression Treaty National Advantage

    Radar National Advantage
    Enigma Decoded National Advantage

    Bonus:Colonial Garrison National Advantage
Bonus: Jet Power Technology (Gives them a break on their attacks for a while.)

    America:

    Marines National Advantage
    Superfortresses National Advantage

I feel Both Germany and Japan are strong enough to start with in any case

We still need 2 more players to try this out. As far as I’m concerned first in best dressed.

  • Well, i could add. How we decide who plays what country? Some bids for UK and USSR?  :-D

  • 2007 AAR League

Maybe as they say it should be a 4 player game or so…

Maybe even make it so that UK/russia have everything joint, including just 1 turn.

It would give them a fighting chance. (possibly without a bid)

    Some very strange Churchill/stalin pact…

Other interesting “thing” is that none can let germany /japan kill russia if they gain nothing from it, so UK/USA, and possiably either japan or germany will have an interest in keeping russia alive until “tehy” can capitalise on them dieing.

    same goes for uk.

So things like that can balance the game itself.

  • Well, if you really have 5 players in a “free for all”, they will be bound to negotiate with each other.

  • Fear the Unholy Alliance: USSR plus Germany  :-D

    UK will be everyone’s b****.

Well, if you really have 5 players in a “free for all”, they will be bound to negotiate with each other.

Kinda the point I was making before.  Let people make their own alliances!

Fear the Unholy Navy if UK/Japan join forces!  UK’s holdings will be safe!

  • 2007 AAR League

I think we should stick with the 5 player scenario. If this game balls up, at least we can set better ground rules if it proves to be popular for next time it’s played. Lets just get 5 players on board, set some rules like Techs and so forth, roll to see who gets waht country and ave a go.
    So who’s in?

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

On the flip side of techs and NAs, and only so we have another option to chose from, not that I necessarily sanction it.

England +8 IPC starting units, same rules as bids. +16 IPC Cash on Hand round 1
Russia +12 IPC Cash on Hand round 1
America +4 IPC Cash on Hand

    Germany and Japan nothing.

  • 2007 AAR League

hell play Abattlemaps the great war.  i found the rules.  thats a 8 player game.  and everyones pretty much for themselves.  america can join either side, and then switch sides, and attack neutral countries.

but a free for all does sound kinda fun for revised.

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

I think we should make Switch be Germany, since he declared that they’d be the ultimate winners. :P

Honestly, I don’t think they would be.  You know Germany’s going to get attacked and if America can earn 60+ a round by taking Africa and the rest of North America, why would Germany win? :P

  • My first instinct goes with Jen too, the US seems unstoppable because it’s isolated and can expand very easily. Spend the first few rounds taking out Canada and the UK fleet/German fleet, then dominate Africa (or do it at the same time with an IC in brazil. Then apply the coup de grace to UK, then attack whoever is more threatening, Germany or Japan.

Germany is powerful of course but it can never stop the land war; even if the Russians are blasted away then the Japanese will come in from the east.

  • America does not need any cash.  They have the most to start, so why add more?

I also think that the other cash values are too high.  In a “normal” game the Axis gets the cash.  And people are going to play pretty close to “normal” strategies, at least in an initial game while they feel it out (differences being UK in Archangel adds cash to UK instead of Moscow, etc.).

Reduce all of the cash values listed by $4…
    so USA no cash
    UK $4
    Russia $8

    No NA’s.
Let’s see if it is viable before we really frack up the game (unless you want all sides to get 1 NA, and give UK and USSR 2 INSTEAD OF cash).

With those modifications, I’ll take Germany in the test.  Let me know when we are ready to begin.

  • 2007 AAR League

Switch what do you mean by these

Reduce all of the cash values listed by $4…
    so USA no cash
    UK $4
    Russia $8

Ok, Switch has said he is keen to go Germany, that’s cool with me as long as it is with everyone else.
So we have Switch, Randmacts, Jen and AJ on board we just need 1 more and I will roll to see who gets the other teams.
I still think Russia and Brt should get at least 2 Techs, just to even it up.

  • The cash statements were in response to Jen’s suggestion.

And I would agree to 2 National Advantages OR Techs for UK and Russia, so long as Japan, US and Germany each get ONE.

But the extra Tech or NA would replace the additional cash.

    So, to summarize…

    Either:
Standard Rules with USSR having an extra $8 to start and UK having an extra $4 to start
    -OR-
All cash as standard.  USSR and UK have 2 NA’s or Techs; Germany, Japan, USA each get 1 NA or Tech.

Either of those and I am in as Germany

  • Hey! I said i would play this! I join! I suggest define each country’s modifications and then everybody throw a dice, higher chooses country. NA should be chosen by the player.

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

    Either:
{A}Standard Rules with USSR having an extra $8 to start and UK having an extra $4 to start
    -OR-
{B}All cash as standard.  USSR and UK have 2 NA’s or Techs; Germany, Japan, USA each get 1 NA or Tech.

I’d go with option B myself and I’d be in for America.

  • 2007 AAR League

Ok, all countries start with standard cash, Russia and Britain get 2 Tech’s, Usa, Jpn, Ger get 1 each.
Seeing as we are picking sides now, I will shotgun and pick Japan.
So we have the sides as follows
    Switch - Germany
    Jen - Usa
    Rand - Japan
    AJ - ?
    Funcioneta - ?

It is meant to be a fun game after all.

  • 2007 AAR League

i could take one side, seems fun…

    i´ll favor UK over russia i think…
