Imagine this scenario. A 6 player game of G40, with out of the box rules-everything from National Objectives to Victory Conditions is completely standard with the OOB rules. But there´s a twist: the Soviets will join the Axis.
What?
The Soviet Union engaged in diplomatic discussion aimed at becoming the 4th Axis Power during November of 1940. Link is below if interested:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German–Soviet_Axis_talks#Molotov_travels_to_Berlin
Of course, it did not work out, but this is alternate history. So, on the Soviet Union´s collect income phase of its second turn, it must join the Axis and the war. It cannot declare war before this point, nor can it be declared war on until after this point. As for National Objectives, the Soviets lose theirs because they will not be getting Lend-Lease nor will they be invaded by the Axis. The victory conditions will be adjusted slightly as well from the box rules: now, to win, the Allies must control Berlin, Tokyo, Rome, and Moscow for 1 complete round of play, and the Axis must control and hold 6 victory cities on the Pacific side or 11 on the European side in order to win.
Now, I am sure this sounds very unbalanced, taking away a major Allied power and adding it to the Axis, even if it is in a way that could have very well happened historically.
This is where the other interesting part comes in: Skill.
Since the Axis have such a huge advantage now, we will say that they have 4 new players playing them, and since the Allies need a lot of help, we will say that the Allies have 2 strong players playing them. The roster is below:
Axis Powers:
Germany-New Player 1
Italy-New Player 2
Japan-New Player 3
Soviet Union-New Player 4
(By New Player, I mean someone who has read the rulebook but never played or researched any strategy for any Axis and Allies game before.)
Allied Powers:
United States, France, and China-Strong Player 1
Great British Empire, Great British Far Eastern Indian Empire, and Australian with New Zealand forces-Strong Player 2
(By Strong Player, I mean someone who has played many times and knows solid strategies-in other words, someone on the same level of playing skill and experience as Young Grasshopper(the Cliffside Bunker guy)).
So the question is(and please take the poll if possible):
Who will win-the 4 new players playing the alternate Axis, or the 2 strong players playing the alternate Allies?
All constructive criticism is appreciated, and again please vote on the poll even if you do not post a response.
Thank and God Bless All You Awesome Players,
-Axis and Allies General
