I have been confused about submarine rules too. If I have 10 battleships but no destroyer and I encircle Japan which has 1 submarine, does that submarine kill my entire fleet because I dont have a destroyer or does it just sit there quietly unless the submarine wants to fight.

RE: An Easy Italian Fix
I like this suggestion. I tried to improve it but it makes plenty of sense because I really dont want to have Italy die without a chance.

RE: Axis or Allies Wins in Those Who Have Played Global…List them here.
What did Germany use to bulldoze the Gibraltar Fleet. 2 submarines seems inadequate, be nice if the fleet was a space to the West.

RE: German Push into USSR
Munchie that is going to be my strategy with the Germans, build a fake sealion fleet of about 4-5 ships and use them to shuffle troops back and forth to Leningrad which I feel is a key, as well as a factory in Romania to dealing with the Russians. Those sea lion ships serve two purposes and that IC in Leningrad would be worth its weight in gold.

RE: G1 soften up France so Italy can take it
I have thought of this, having Italy take France and then France using the newfound money to buy the ships that the British will surely destroy and prepare to take Africa. Maybe this is the correct way to play the game and have a strong power in the Mediteranian.

Axis or Allies Wins in Those Who Have Played Global…List them here.
Alright, seriously there is a big argument going about whether or not Italy is useless and if the Axis can even win and if the game is broken. I dont have the game myself, I will get it tomorrow and will leave a massive post on what happens with my game for all you guys to pore over.
So here, if you have actually played and finished a global game or games can you list who has won them. Also list what you thought the deciding factor of the games are. Right now I am assuming 70-30% wins for the Allies. -
RE: Italy a bad design
I think Italy sucking and France getting smoked in the first round have nothing to do with whether or not the game is broken…sure there are some weaker powers, but what really matters is there about a 50/50 chance of the axis or the allies winning. Yea the Italian situation sucks, but maybe it can be fixed by using submarines to disable the carrier.

RE: Italy a bad design
Hey Indianapolis, I dont have the game yet. Unlike all you guys who live on the Eastcoast I still have to wait until tomorrow to pummel the Russians to bloody submission….and since there is no rulebook online I am looking towards you.

RE: German Push into USSR
On what turn is it best to attack Russia. Is it possible to do so on G2, right after France and the UK Navy has been smoked? Buy some transports the first round, either take or get close to taking Leningrad and move troops from Poland and Rumania head on.

RE: Italy a bad design
I was just looking at that and apparently it cant, grr. Well I am still going to send two submarines after that. Can planes ever attack subs or is that only when the destroyer is present?
-
RE: Italy a bad design
I dont think you can use the fighter and tactical bomber because there is nowhere for them to land. But if you have a bomber, it can move 7 and you can take it from Germany and land it in Northern Italy. When I get the game tomorrow….grrrrr! That will be my strategy. The odds are pretty good, it seems 2 at 2, 1 at 4, against 1 at 1, 1 at 4, 1 at 2. This could seriously save the Italian Navy. Has anybody tried this.

RE: Italy a bad design
Cant the German submarines in the Atlantic attack the British fleet near the mediteranian. From the looks of it Germany has two submarines in 103 and 109 that could at least do a volley against the British forces in sea zone 91. If you score a hit he will either kill the destroyer or take some damage on the carrier which wont allow him to fix launch the planes. Either way this seems like a sensible German move and it might dissuade the British from attacking Italy.
Naturally there will be a cost to wiping out the British navy but that can be done in G2 if you dont have sufficient forces. -
RE: Which territory do you live in?
Western United States. But why is Frisco a victory city and not Los Angeles?

RE: A 'during the action' report
Titus, I really like the idea of Germany buying submarines because I have found them incredibly hard to kill. I would assume that any type of vessel that popped up in England would have been smoked immediately by those cheap 6 dollar submarines. I also feel they might be able to make the Americans spend alot of money to defend their navy.
With the UK virtually penniless is there any reason why you havent attempted a sea-lion? It seems like a later game sea lion against a weaker England could be a possibility if they are truly short of funds. Rockets themselves sound like a good tech but I dont really get the AA50 tech.
I will get my game Friday and were are doing random for axis or allies but maaan I sure want Germany bad. -
RE: Convoy disruption relay
I wonder if Germany and Italy can make a fleet of about 10-15 submarines and place them off the East coast of America in the first few turns and if Japan can make a fleet of submarines and place them off the West coast of America, therby sucking dry all of their incomes. I know this sounds kind of crazy, but submarines are cheap now and could this be possible or is it crazier than a Sea Lion attempt.

RE: OH JOY!!
Bruda, I would agree that is who Imperious Leader is! He is who Larry Harris wants to be but is constrained by the people at WoTC. For example, his maps are awesome but he always clashes with the minor technicalities of the game and would like the game more complex. I believe he is Larry’s way to vent the frustration at this game yet still act like he is reigned in by his distributor. Brilliant!

RE: Any After Action Reports Yet?
I was actually fairly worried about that strategy of wiping out a weaker Italy with a 100 IPC strong United States. At Maximum Italy will only make about 30-40 IPCS which is not half of what America makes. I was planning on doing this my first game as America and not buying anything for the pacific and just working to smoke Europe with some serious funds.
What turns has Japan declared war against the allies, is it still a majority J1 strategy? I would assume that depriving Asia of 20 IPCS in the DEI is more worth it than keeping the American income down. I mean during those turns America will be buying transports and troops and shipping them to the borders of Britain and Gibraltar immediately. It seems like in turn 3 they can just unleash what they have in the North African area and the Italians are then in serious trouble. -
When do you collect national objective cash?
What point do you collect the income from national objectives, at the end of the entire round or at the end of your turn?

Any After Action Reports Yet?
While my game is still in delivery I was wondering if you lucky ducks who got your games early have any reports from the front?
