RE: Amazon is shipping
It just arrived by UPS! Â Mine also said that on Tuesday I would see it Oct 24th. Then on Wed I got a shipped notification. Â I’m a prime member so 2-day is automatic. Â I’m in Georgia so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

RE: WD ideas for 42.2
Thanks taamvan, Great point - I definitely do not want to over engineer the process, which I have a tendency to do. My thought was to still have the option of chance and after getting the necessary research, which I feel should be the most difficult part. A player would still have to roll our friend d6 to see what they get in tier 1 or tier 2. Using cards sound interesting? Is there a youtube or discussion thread about cards? This is why this forum is spectacular as it generates ideas and concepts. Thanks again!!!

WD ideas for 42.2
So because we don’t always have a weekend to play G40 I have been working on beefing up 42.2 with WD. I have to say the ideas from GH, YG and DK on incorporating WD in a manner that does not require significant IPC’s and off the charts luck are very intriguing and thoughtful. Obviously some if not many of these concepts used in G40 will not transfer to 42.2. I liked GH idea of placing research tokens around the board, this is something that I believe can be accomplished. The question is how to incorporate a second research token (or some other type of requirement) as there are no victory objectives per se in 42.2. I had a thought to randomly scatter research tokens around the IPC board requiring a country to actually land on that IPC value. This way you will have to be thinking about how many you need to land on that IPC value exactly. I would like to hear from players that have incorporated different concepts to bring WD into play on 42.2. I know in the past whether or not there was WD in a game it was hardly ever used as the cost and luck to obtain was prohibitive. Thanks in advance. I would also like to say that I am very impressed and humbled at the incredible amount of imagination and passion for this game that I see from players on this forum and in youtube. Ladies and Gentlemen keep it up!!!

RE: AA50 reprint?
Ordered mine, very exciting! I figured either the 9/22 was a guess by someone or maybe it was an original estimated release that has changed. Or maybe, Amazon gets theirs after the initial release to give time to smaller localized game companies to get their sales in before Amazon blasts the game world wide.

Glad to see some one playing this again
After playing G40 and 1914 for awhile now. Sometimes I get nostalgic and dust off the 1986 A&A, Revised and Spring 42 1st edition, normally beer is involved. We just played this pacific game and I have to say we had a blast and it doesn’t take a weekend. I like the red japan mini’s as it give me another color army in case we decide to modify another game and add a country or something. It’s really amazing how all the A&A games seem to stand the test of time.

Thanks HTH, and to think I got all the way to pay 16 before quitting! :|

Sub and Air
Over the weekend we played a game and we seemed to talk ourselves into confusion of how aircraft interact with subs in combat. So I have 2 scenarios that I’m sure can be answered.
First hypothetical battle does not include DD on either side. Attacker has aircraft carrier with 2 fighters and a cruiser. Defender has cruiser, 2 subs. Obviously the subs have their first strike option and takes them with no hits. Attacker rolls for cruiser and 2 fighters and gets 3 hits. So what is the out come? Can the defender decide to take out the cruiser with the hit from the attackers cruiser and the 2 subs remain since the other 2 hits are from fighters? Or is the defender obligated to take a fighter hit on the cruiser and take the hit from the cruiser on one of the subs? Of course the defender did not decide to submerge.
Second is the same above except the cruisers are now DD’s. I gather that the planes can target the subs so long as there is a DD on the battle board. Also, what if the DD is destroyed in the first round of combat do you continue into the 2nd round of combat as if the DD was still there or since it is gone now subs cannot be spotted so fighter hits do not count.
Hopefully this makes sense. I know if I just sat down and thought about it, I might be able to rationalize these concepts. However, I would rather have the experts confirm.
Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Weapons Development Chart
Yea, sorry the 2004 Revised edition. The one that has the WD attached to the IPC tracker. I took the initiative to create a couple of simple aids. Not as sexy as what I typically find on this forum but they work. The cards I print out on a color printer on 110lb card stock. It gives it enough rigidity to make it feel like a card. Most home printers can handle 110lb card stock paper. And if you want the one page WD Chart I made a simple chart without a lot of noise. Don’t know about most of you but after a beer or twelve I start to forget about any WD that I may have researched, that’s why many games we just go without WD. So the cards are great reminders. I also agree we really seem to enjoy the AA Revised, Spring 1942 and Spring 1942 2nd, because they are easy set ups and much quicker than G40 (but I do enjoy a nice heated weekend long G40 battle when time permits). Not to mention that I have the 6x3 boards for all from a print shop prepared by our Imperious Leader!

RE: 1914 Map?
IL, I must say I am very thankful for all your effort on the maps you put out. I think I have printed just about every board now from (Global, 1942 2nd, 1942 revised, 1942 50th and now 1914). It definitely creates new excitement in game play. I just re-ordered the 1914 as my first print was only 36x36, which is still larger than the original however, Europe is still tight. I think the print shop will be increasing the size to 48x50. I think this should open up Europe a bit. Has anyone else printed this out 48x48 or larger?
Anyway, even at 36x36 it is nice not having the seams.
Thanks again for your work on these.

RE: Transport questions
Thanks for the quick reply. So assuming that the transport has not moved you can load the units and move the transport 2 spaces and unload it. Understanding that the units could not have been moved prior to loading and are not moved after unloading. All units must be unloaded in the same territory but you can leave some units on the transport if you so desire. So I think we have been playing correctly.
So can units be loaded onto a transport that I had to move one space to get to the transport and can I move the transport 2 spaces with the understanding that I will not be able to unload the transport until the next turn?
Thanks again,

Transport questions
We think we understand how the transports work but thought we would confirm. We all assumed that a transport could be used as a bridge (like in 1942). So a transport in SZ9 could move 2 units to say Belgium or Picardy. Are we correct? Assuming that the transport was already in SZ9.
Also, if we load a French transport that is already in SZ16 with two units and want to move to 2 spaces to SZ19. Can we unload the units in Trans-Jordan or do we have to wait until the next turn. We are also assuming there are no CP units in Trans-Jordan and is still under Ottoman control.
The thing that kept throwing us off is with all land units only moving one space does the move to the transport count as the one move?
Thanks for your clarification.

Minor Aligned Territory
If France moves into Albania (Amphibious) and Albania has not been entered by any power yet, I understand that Italy will place their 4 units but who gets the IPC’s France or Italy?
Sorry, we dug through the rule book and I’m sure it is in there but maybe we were just tired last night. Thought it would be quicker to just ask.
Thanks,

RE: Map/rule question regarding naval ports
Krieghung, thanks for the quick response. That poor Russian battleship in SZ12 has to thread the needle through SZ11 and SZ10 even if there are no ships there and I guess once the UK Navy is gone in SZ29, you just need to start ground pounding your way through Ottoman to get into the fight.

Map/rule question regarding naval ports
Sorry if these had already been asked. I’m fairly new to AA and just got 1914.
Question 1: The 2 naval ports in Karelia - is 1 in SZ12 and the other in SZ6 or are they both in SZ6?
Question 2: I understand if a sea battle occurs in a SZ with a Naval port you will roll for mines first. However do you have to roll for mines even if you move through a SZ with a port. For example if Russia moves its battleship from SZ12 to SZ10 does it have to go through 2 separate mine fields? No sea battle or amphibious assault is taken place, purely just a move. I know the rule book says “stops in or through” but just want to confirm.
Question 3: Given that Paris is land locked I am assuming that Navy units can be placed at either port (SZ15 or SZ16). Does this hold true for say the UK? Can a Navy unit be placed at either SZ8 or SZ9? Or does it have to be placed in SZ9. This is assuming the UK still has control of London and Wales.
Question 4: General question; if Moscow is controlled by CP and say Ottoman has control of Sevastopol and the UK takes control of Sevastopol from Ottoman can the UK place ships in SZ21 on their next turn if they still control it? Or does it go back to Russia? I see in the rule book it says “originally owed” but in other AA’s I thought if you held the yard till the next turn it was your’s to do with as you please.
I think I know this answer but given that there is no Naval yard in India that no ships can be placed there. Even though you can place land units. That stinks - I guess you really need to get control of Constantinople for its Naval yard.
Thanks and sorry if these are remedial or have been answered before.

RE: Battle board
No, I was actually looking for a custom one. I should have clarified, sorry. I find that the custom boards I find here are usually far more intuitive and thoughtful than the ones that come with the game. Especially with 1914, it seems there could have been a better alternative that might include navy units. Thanks for responding.

Battle board
Has anyone created a custom battle board for 1914? Thanks in advance.

Weapons Development Chart
I was wondering if anyone has designed a weapons development chart? We broke out the 42 revised this past weekend and the chart that came with this game gives me vertigo! There should be a warning.
I’m only guessing I’m not the only one that gets dizzy looking at this. Although maybe I am if no one is playing this version anymore.
Thanks
