Since victory is checked at the end of each turn, the Allies must hold the required zones until the end of turn 10.

Agreed. That’s how I always play it.

@the_good_captain Yes. From page 16 of the Rulebook:

During this step, Axis land units move and patrolling Allied fighters react. Each fighter in a region rolls to strafe each Axis unit moving into or out of that zone, including reinforcements. The Axis player indicates all units that are moving, then the Allies fire one at a time against target units.

I would say of all the D&D variants we’ve played, the guys and I have almost no arguments or conflicts about rules etc with D-Day.

While I’m on here, any other of the smaller AA games (like battle of the bulge) that you guys recommend?  Im playing this with my 8 year old, and I like that he can understand and play with me.

D-Day is the easiest A&A game of all.  Battle of the Bulge and Guadalcanal are a little bit more involved.  However, if your son can handle D-Day, maybe he can handle one of those as well.  I think I’d try Bulge before Guadalcanal.  If you do, let him be the Germans, as it’s harder to play the Allies in that game.

I’d agree with this. Looking at the rules it might seem Guadalcanal is ‘simpler’ but you have to make many more “if I do this what will my opponent do,” decisions a lot faster and GCNL eliminates the reinforcement charts creating a daunting set of decisions regarding reinforcements.

If you are also new to BOTB playing the Allies will be a good handicap for you as it is tougher to play the Allies and will be easier and more interesting for him as the Axis on the attack.

I’d wait till you’re bored with D-Day though.

It is shorter than Guadalcanal. D-Day is the shortest A&A game (poor play aside.) Guadalcanal is a close second though.

According to the FAQ from Avalon Hill you must declare your moves before the units are strafed and the move must be legal assuming no loses to strafing.

We have always played that the city has to be clear of the Axis at the begining and end of the turn. Moving a unit in during the turn doesn’t change control. Control is in step five of combat. The Axis move is after the Allies move. The Axis would move into the Allied controlled city. Combat would occur and if there are no Axis units left control would stay with the Allies. That isn’t in the FAQ.
