I mean according to the battle of Castle Itter, there was a SS officer that helped the allies out.

My grandfather, as member of the U.S 2nd Inf., said the Bulge was pure artic hell. You could never get warm and get away from German shelling.

There were two sides to CHOOSE from. :p

That said… I bet your grandfather has never forgotten the feeling of ‘that’ cold.
I’ve been to Bastogne, the town is lined with sherman turrets marking the peaks of german expansion/lines of allied defense, the american pocket was smaller than the circumference of a football stadium. And they never relented. Even though they got the hell beat out of them.

Guys,
On the left is a pic of my Dad just before IT hit the fan in the B.O.T.B. He’s still alive and “kickin”. Plays A&A with us all the time. At age 87 he still works everyday at his own business(printer).

If he hasn’t seen it, you might want to recommend this 1949 film to him:

For the time at which is was made, it’s a surprisingly gritty and unromantic look at what Army life in general and the BOTB in particular were like for ordinary troops. Also very accurate from a historical viewpoint, even though it’s a fictionalized account of the siege of Bastogne.
Edit: Can’t get the link to work properly. Go here instead…

CWOMarc,
I grew up watching war movies with my Dad and now have a decent colection on DVD, maybe 250+.
Although he(my Dad) is a BIG “Patton” fan, and that’s his all-time favorite war movie, he always said “Battleground” was the best for showing how it really was.
He still phones me whenever either Patton, or Battleground come on TV. I’ve made sure he has those and several others to watch whenever he wants to.
Thanks for your suggestions.
