Im not talking about a digital Map, but a real one. I consider myself very artistically minded so I think I could do it without it looking too bad. What materials would I need, how much time would it take? I wanna do a global map from about 1920.

Table that I’ve been wanting to build since 1984 dreaming as a kid…. I have seen pretty impressive tables at gencon and a lot of tables in this forum gave me some inspiration. Young grasshopper’s table I liked the most and it follows his design with the map he worked on. Hope you like as I will be breaking it in with my two boys and some friends this labor day weekend.
I can’t seem to attach the images as I haven’t posted enough in the forums or some other issue is going on, but here is the link to look at. I can’t post links yet, so you need to put “https” in front of each file to see the link. Maybe later I will have permissions to past links or directly show the images… :?

Beautiful work! Gaming tables made out of dark-stained wood always look especially good in my opinion, and this is definitely a nice one.
The posting problem to which you refer is simply due to an anti-spam security feature of this board. Once you’ve reached a certain number of posts (I think it’s 10), you’ll be able to post picture as well as hyperlinks.

By the way, I’ve just added a copy of your post, with active hyperlinks, in the Global Gaming Table Threads and Pictures thread where you originally tried to post the pictures yesterday:

I tried to post the pics last night as an attachment, but the files were to large and my MacBook with PS was at my work, so I couldn’t shrink them. Thanks for providing the links CWO Marc, this is by far the best looking table I’ve ever seen… and it looks like it functions well too.
Great Work Kcheu!

wow, now that was something 8-)

Classiest A&A table I have seen. Nice work!
Have you tried playing at the pool table yet? We have played a lot by just putting the board on top of my parent’s pool table and I have always found the seating to be problematic and uncomfortable. Always seems you are too far away and can’t get your legs under the table. But other wise it is ideal in both shape and area.

Thanks for all the comments, it really was a labor of love. I have previously built a large island kitchen counter top out of the same wood which is Brazilian cherry wood (Jotoba). I basically took two of my passions and combined them in woodworking and board-games (AA is favorite). The wood is naturally beautiful and only requires me to put a clear lacquer for the finish. I do plan on putting an 1/8 inch acrylic glass on top to preserve the map itself from any scratches.
@ CWO Marc - thanks for help on why posting images wasn’t working, I will do my best to post concise and on point to get to my 10 minimum hehe.
@ Young Grasshopper - thanks for the map and suggested printing of material for it, the vinyl matte worked great from print shop.
@ LHoffman - we have played several times without the finished table you see above and find that most of the time we are standing looking over and talking about various plans and strategies. Only occasionally do we sit down and even then we do ok with the leg room, but we do bang a knee every now and then. The idea is to be able to play pool and or play AA. The table itself is padded underneath so as to not damage the pool table felt. Although the game table is very heavy and bulky to get off , not sure how many times it will be moved hehel. We will be playing this all weekend with YG Halifax rules as I read over those and really like the issues it addresses.
Thanks again for all the previous tables that have been built as they definitely have given inspiration and belief in building a great table.

Beautiful table man! Now you just need some custom painted pieces to fill them slots at the table. :-D

yes, i know. I used to paint small pewter figures for a different game (it’s a D&D nerd here) and because I enjoyed painting them so it might be up next.
