It makes no sense to do Italian models for the neutrals, considering that we already have a full range of German, Italian, and Axis Minor sculpts (and Coach has already announced that he has more German variants coming on top of that…) Between all of the different neutral/ minor countries, surely there’s a more unique sculpt he could choose!
I can understand that the criticism that it looks too much like a P-38, though the argument that it looks too “modern” makes no sense. It looks like what it is, which is not especially modern by WW2 standards. Even the P-38 itself was more an early-war than a late-war model. In the West it was destined to be almost entirely replaced late-war by P-47 and P-51 fighters. (Note, btw, the much higher numbers in the model designations of the later models: there were nine other proposed fighter designs in between the P-38 and the P-47… and even the P-40 was a later design!)
