Cool, thx
Can't search Forums…?
-
Last year I feel in love with A&A and have been checking this website often… and finally I thought, “this would be easier if I could search the topics in the forum.” So, I registered but now it says, “error, can’t search topics in this forum.” Can anyone help? Thanks.

Just look page by page like everybody else?

Why have a search engine if it doesn’t work?
-
A search function really would be handy. I mean that is what computers are best at, sifting through tens of thousands of pages of posts to find relevant tidbits.
There seems to be a bug in AAMap. Calvinghobesliker and I both had instances were our toolbar vanished. Is this a known bug? A search would be a handy way of finding out, am I going to spend hours and hours doing a manual search when I found a workaround fix in about 15 minutes? Nope. Is it common knowledge that there is a workaround for it? I dunno, why should I spend hours trying to find out when a 15 second computer aided search would do it.
I could just post my fix, but as a newbie I risk pointing out the obvious and known and thus wasting peoples time.
Is it a matter of security to prevent nefarious access? Then perhaps some work around could be done? Is it a matter of time or resources?

It is currently in the works. It was causing issues
-
It still is not working.
-
Dylan, “currently in the works means” its a work in progress, not that it currently works.
-
I have temporarily put a Google search box on the right-hand side. I think it needs to be tuned a bit but should be a good stop-gap for now.
-
Great, can’t wait to play with it!!

If you search “Dylan the Canadian” you get this first

Yeah, it is a little annoying that the printable versions are in there. Stupid SMF forums should have had all of those links set to nofollow and noindex.
Ones of these days we’re switching to Phorum.

How does the search engine work? I am asking this because I did a search for “aamap” and it only returned 4 links? Surely there are more than 4 postings with the word ‘aamap’ in it? Is there pattern matching in the search, ie wildcards or wild characters (no not me!) like searching for destro* for anything that starts with destro. Would it be possible to have an ‘advanced’ search feature to add filters like dates? Can you have multiple keywords with logical operaters like ‘and’ ‘or’ ‘not’?
-
I like the new search function, even if it is simplified, it’s better than nothing. :-) Thanks DJ.
-
There’s a new, larger search box. Let’s try this one for a while.
-
Cool, this is much better! The AAmap issue I feel is a result of not having a space between aa and map. A new search with a “aa map” returned many more results. Did google supply anything for syntax on using boolean operators or other advanced search criterias?
-
It’s the standard syntax for Google searches.
If there are certain searches that work better than others, please list them. I can include a list of search suggestions for the search bar.

I like the search on Larry’s site. I type larry (or krieghund) in the “search author”. It takes me to all their post the most recent ones first. It doesn’t matter if they started the tread or are just responding. That way you can stay on top of recent Larry sightings, or important Q & A w/Krieg. It also helps if you know one of them said something you want reference to, but you can’t remember what topic.
This site defiantly needs something?
-
If you type Krieghund into the search box, the first hit is Krieghund’s profile page, from there you can see all of his posts.
-
Thanks djensen, that is helpful when looking for clarifications on the new game. Its like a highlight real.

It may take a while to look through them all
