6 inf is kind of a lot for just one territory (even if it is the capital).

Japan starts with eight infantry in Pac 40. In terms of Revised or 42, six is a ton, but for the 40 games, it’s reasonable. I imagine Germany will start with like 10.

But it’s France, they were next to dead after the low countries fell.

Not necessarily. They still had quite a number of soldiers available at their disposal. It’s just that the best elements of the Army was sent up to Belgium and was floored, with the remnants escaping at Dunkirk.

By best elements do you mean, like machinery or more highly trained soldiers.

    Both I do believe.

  • Yes, both. The best-trained and best-equipped were sent with the BEF up to Belgium. So they didn’t sent the majority of the French Army there–-just the cream of the crop.

  • I’d say 6inf in the paris tt makes the most amount of sense. If you look at how quickly a stack of infantry gets chewed up by Tac bombers its really not that intimidating. From playing PAC40 and seeing how stacks of Chinese Infantry get destroyed by the Japanese with minimal ground forces with large amounts of air support, I think 6 is logical.
Larry had mentioned in another post that the Germans will have a number of Mech infantry to call on to boost their numbers in the opening assualt on France(maybe like 4 or 5). We can then assume that the Germans will be able to bring a number of tanks to bare as well (guessing like 4 or 5). With this we can assume the Germans will also have that the Germans may have enough Tac bombers to pair up with the tanks, and a number of fighter aircraft and a few heavy bombers as well (im guessing no more then 2 or 3 heavy bombers, 6 or 7 fighters(spread out) and tac bombers equal to their tank units).
If you combine this striking force with a stack or 8+ infantry, France dosnt stand a chance and the most you would hope to do as France is cause enough casualties in that stack of Infantry.

    @GrizzlyMan:

I think 2 in each French territory is reasonable. Considering they have 6 territories. Wasnt there a French Legion in Africa?

France has more than 6 territories. Based on what we can discern from the map, there are 3 in Europe, Syria, Algeria, Tunisia, possibly Morocco, and three in equitorial africa. France proper will be more heavily represented than its colonies, but there will be some units in the colonies

Yes, but like UN said, he was asking Larry specifically about Germany versus the 3 European French territories. Larry’s response did not specify whether he included the African holdings, or French Indo-China in his totals for the units, but it very much sounded like he was talking 12 French infantry in Europe… NOT total French units around the world. Even though 12 may seem like a lot, when compared with Germany it will (hopefully) seem dreadfully small.

  • No.  they might just release the game in a bigger box for 6 nation boxes

  • @Axisgirl:

Do you think the box will be longer?

Maybe, maybe not. That definitely poses a interesting question: will they be forced to break the consistency of the Europe and Pacific boxes and add a 6th box or will the French units share a box with another power?

August 24th seems awfully far away…

  • Official Q&A

The French will share a box with another power.

    Welcome to the forums, Axisgirl!

    Welcome to the forums, Axisgirl!

I’m guessing Italy, since both Italy and France will probably play a smaller role than, say, the Soviet Union or Germany.

  • It will be the uk then since they’re susposed to control France also. But I know I am going to be making a box for france because two powers in one box is going to be a pain the butt. If it was like china with only inf I wouldn’t care butt digging threw two powers with full armies will drive me crazy.  So I’ll make another box in woodshop

    I don’t remember getting a welcome. Also I want a cookie.  :-D

But seriously, that kinda sucks that they will be sharing a box, will there be a divider or something so that the units don’t get all mixed up?

I don’t think it’s been specified which player controls France. Just like it wasn’t specified who would control China in Pacific.

  • Yeah but here on the forums it has been acceptedly that the uk player will controll France

  • @fanofbond:

Perhaps, but I think the Brits have enough to worry about. Besides, the Soviet player will be doing nothing for the first few turns except positioning and buying armies, so why not control the French in their final hours, and the Free French units that remain in the Empire?

UK seems more likely though similar molds right?

I hope so. They’ll be getting their own infantry mold, but everything else will be borrowed from other Allied units, which makes no sense historical-wise, but I guess Wizards needs to cut their costs somehow. /sourmood

  • @Axisgirl:

Thank you Krieghund. Ive been lurking for a while and decided to make an account.

Im thinking that France will share a box with UK?

    or maybe Italy?

UK seems more likely though similar molds right?

I’m not sure, but I think France will get the Japan tank mold, and some other things from Japan.

  • @Axisgirl:

Really? I could see France using the Sherman

Well I just guessed because Italy in AA50 used Japanese pieces (other then infantry.)

  • @cminke:

france never recive any shermans. shermans are u.s. not british. and we all know(i hope)that usa never came in when france was still fighting

No just Britain and France will be at war with Germany and Italy.

The Japanese tank is based on a French design…  so it will not be a terrible crime if WOTC uses Blue Japanese tanks for France.

Do you know anything about the French units?
