I agree I don’t see how the allies can win once Sealion has occurred. The US must now take over all the UKs operations in the Atlantic, at least liberate England, but if Germany plays it properly the US will need at huge commitment to retake the UK.  Now as they are working hard to retake the UK they can’t send enough against Japan for Japan to worry about.

I would like to know what the Allies do in your games where Sealion has occurred and how they manage to comeback and win.

First off I play Alpha 3 and In alpha 3 Japan can take India on turn 5 every time.

With the regular Alpha 3 rules Germany can take London with greater than 90% odds every time no matter what the allies can get there.  Then once Germany takes London they can push Russia back onto their Russian TTs two turns later at the latest, and that will end up hurting Russia more than it will help.  It is an Axis victory every game.

Italy can take as much as they want if the US goes for the Pacific.  On turn 5 they are pushing on India/Russia from the South.

I don’t see how you guys think the USA can do anything against Japan.  When I play Japan takes India turn five every time and there is nothing that the allies can do to stop it.  Japan sets up shop on the coast off french indo china and supports them selves with an airbase and naval base in yunnan.  Now they have air cover and maneuverability in the south.  The US can’t even risk putting its fleet danger down there until turn 5 or turn 6 depending on how lucky the allies are with defense rolls.  Now that is too little too late.  Once India has fallen its game over what is stopping Japan from sending ground troops at Russia now.  All Japan needs to do is keep reinforcing its Navy off indo china and they will build an airbase in french indo china and hainan.  Now they can scramble 9 planes and they have all their navy which is being reinforced.  The allies can’t win in the Pacific unless the US completely forgets about Europe the whole game.  Then its a German victory over Russia.

When you guys are playing to you hit Germany where he is weak at all or do you guys just keep falling back.

@special Forces… Vailed point, the interceptors would almost definantly would be sent to counter this, so this will not be an end gib strat as intended but it could be used as a delay strat/misdirection reaon* there would need to be ground units(to defend against a itlian landing) and fighters there to intercept….and the sooner they load Gib with fighters the sooner u pull outta south france…if they pull thier interceptors out then the bombers return(most likely from sout italy), it would definantly lock down enemy planes to be permenatly stationed there…which leads me to wish i could change the title, to “slowing down the allies”

It may indeed slow down the Allies. Another option is to wait with bombing Gibraltar (and risk your bombers) until USA is getting close, and then start bombing. Might avoid a lot of planes landing on Gibraltar, since you haven’t showed your cards yet.

One more option (if Italy has transports left) is to actually take Gibraltar (take control over that NB and AB, and block the entrance to the Med). The turn USA takes it back (and they will) they can’t land planes on it. Meaning no interceptors that turn. Then again, UK can still land planes before Italy gets to bomb, so it’s never a sure thing.

If Italy takes gibralter then the US can repair the NB which would go against what copper wants to do.

But US can’t repair anything unless London has fallen.

How could the US repair the NB if it belongs to a capital-less UK?

When I am making the comments to my buddy I’m allowed a little slack.

Now,

This strategy has a lot of merit.  First off you mentioned that Germany would lose 1 IPC a turn on the UK, but that is a lot better than the double digits (20+) IPCs a merely weakened UK would cost not only Germany, but Italy a turn in lost units and unobtainable income.  From an economic standpoint taking the UK is always better for the axis rather than letting them survive.  Even with them in the game with a weak presence they can still conduct combat and give the US a shield to hide behind while the UK hides behind the US.

Then when he mentions the US being nullified in Europe he means that they now are greatly reduced in their effectiveness.  With the UK out of the game the US must choose what it wants to do.  Germany has taken the UK on round 3 so the earliest that the US can even make an attempt at recapture is turn 4, if they choose to forget about Japan on US1.  Now most likely the US has built ships in the Pacific on US1, so on US2 when they realize that they need lots of guys in Europe pronto, they build as many transports and guys as they can.  Now look where they are at.  They don’t have superiority over the German air force so they are forced to wait another turn to built combat ships just so they can land.  Now the earliest the US can retake is US7 maybe 6 depending on the Luftwaffe location. Now during all that time Germany as been beating on Russia with Italian help and the Italians have taken all of Africa.  Now the Italians are moving on to India if Japan hasn’t sacked them yet.  Game over.  Russia can’t hold out against all the Germans in the north and the Italians and Japanese in the south.  So all the victory cities will be taken on the Europe board before the US and a liberated UK can even get Egypt back.

Now your saying WTF this irrelevant, if I where the US I would be building in the Atlantic on US1.  Now honestly ask yourself.  When the US builds in the Pacific on US1 they set themselves up to pound Japan into submission.  That said.  Even if the US builds all in the Atlantic on US1 they are forced to sit off the Coast until US3 when they now move towards the UK.  OK you say I can liberate on US4.  Now at this point Germany has taken the UK with a shit ton of units left, and on G4 they could move more onto the UK while they make a large sweeping attack on Russia.  Germany can choose to land its planes on the UK and easily defend it on US4, and at his point the allies are so far behind the axis that they need every bit of luck to win.

Hi all,
I haven’t been on the forums in a while and am scheduled to play again today.  What is the best version to play?  If you could add a link to set up that would be nice.

Everyonce in a while our group will come across a situations where a couple of the powers can’t do anything offensively in a turn.  (usually late in the game after some large battle)
