If Russia is aggressive in its first move, all things considered, it’s game over for the Axis. It’s why I favor a house rule that forces the USA to spend a certain amount of money in the Pacific Theater-and units purchased can only be used in that theater of operations…
Who's at the top of the box ?
-
Just to kill some time I tried to identify all the people on the cover of the AA42 box. I believe four of them are :
Dowding (UK), Manstein (GER), Eisenhower (US, the only face I knew ), Vasilevsky (RUS) but who’s the one at the top ?
I found no answer looking through the Forum, so please shed some light on the question. -
Not quite sure, but that may be Yamamoto. He was bald and is mostly shown without a cap, but there’s a picture of him with a cap and it looks somewhat similar to this one.
-
Are you refering to this picture [http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Yamamoto-Isoroku-improvedContrast.jpg/url] ?
Could actually be, but the guy on the box still looks a little different.](http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Yamamoto-Isoroku-improvedContrast.jpg/url] ?<br />Could actually be, but the guy on the box still looks a little different.) -
Yes, that’s the one I’m thinking about, but indeed, they don’t quite look the same. But the images on the box are a bit off anyway - Manstein, for instance, is clearly based on this picture:
But the version on the box looks distorted, with his head being rather round.

At first glance, I thought it was Bruce Willis :-D

@c64:
Bruce Willis ? You mean something like this ?
Or did you mean Eisenhower ? ( he looks more like Bruce Willis):-D
My bad, I was thinking Eisenhower (by “top” I must have been thinking “top layer”)
Nice photoshop :-)

I was reminded of this old topic when seeing this picture:
So the pilot shown just above the British flag on the box top, would be James Doolittle.
And of course the two people looking at the map are MacArthur and Nimitz, the original photo being:
-
Doolittle ? Never heard of him before but he’s the one behind the Union Jack.
I’m still not sure about the japanese admiral.
Could be Yamamoto but this guy Yamada ( http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USMC/USMC-M-Marshalls/img/USMC-M-Marshalls-p31.jpg ) comes close too.
( It’s 100% Yamamoto on the Pacific 1940 box though )Shall we move on to the Pacific, Europe or Anniversary boxes then ?

Good lord man! Never heard of Doolittle?
-
maybe nagumo
-
Come on, everyone know the doolittle raid did little.
-
I filled my gaps concerning that Doolittle guy but I found Japan’s answer to the raid far more interesting. Balloon bombs ? Sounds more like in a SF movie than a real WW2 story.
btw : Is there a way to play AAE1940 by EMail right now ?
