    my first full experience of ptv…

    I have to admit, I’m in utter disbelief at how this turned out, after all of those smashings the axis delivered to the allies in the early rounds:

    • failed taranto

    • wiping out of ALL the British ships (except maybe a transport or dd somewhere far off of Southern Africa)

    • destroying a substantial Russian stack in Norway

    • mass wiping of india (90+ tuv score)

    • a flawless and complete bombing of Moscow

    and probably more that I’m not remembering…

    all I can say is that ptv is definitely nothing like bm3 in that regard… apparently allies can take a huge beating and still win it.

    not sure how I feel about that… I think it’s a bit too much for my taste.

In all the examples you gave, we were able to overcome them through a higher income. While the “crushing” of the Russian and Indian stacks of units may have seemed like the final nail(s) in the allied coffin, it put units out of position to hit other strategic locations the following turn while allowing us to maintain a high economy. I really liked what you did with Italy/Germany in the Med, but I’ve found allowing Russia to live anywhere around 30 IPCs/turn puts a Europe victory out of reach. Similarly, if China is not completely removed and allowed to push the coast, a Pacific victory for Japan is also unachievable. It’s a difficult balancing act for sure, but far better then other versions where a $60+ bid does nothing and the allies simply loose always to German bombers. Just my 2 cents. Again, great game gentlemen! Cheers.

    In terms of balance, I feel bm4 with allies having a bid between 15-20 is about as good as I’ve seen.

    After this first experience with ptv, it seems like axis would need a larger bid, or else maybe stick to a very narrow set of options that are feasible and nothing else (e.g., not try with German/italian navy).

    anyway, I’d be down for a rematch if Adam and you guys are down.
