  • Ok, I’ll try and give some feedback now as well as explain a bit of my decisions.

    The bid is good. A fig in Scotland is very valuable. The sub in z98 also has a lot of merit, although a Taranto certainly isn’t forced. If nothing else it can help in the attack on z96. An art in Sudan will help to secure Cairo by crushing Ethiopia.

    As I said I considered buying an ac in order to strafe z111. The extra fig in Scotland makes that idea less viable. Instead I went with 2 inf, 6 mech that will be valuable in the Barbarossa progress. That has higher priority than control of the North Sea.

    I invested quite a lot in the attack on Normandie, but it didn’t go very well.

    Had the option to retreat from Yugoslavia into Romania. I preferred to continue and take Yugo, since there’s no need for a G2 DOW.

    It was a strong attack on z110 and with Bismarck there it was wise to abstain from any scramble. Got some wasted killer dice there as well.

    1 tac needs to land in Holland. I decided to secure it by landing more air there, despite it being more flexible in WG. The damaged Bismarck will cancel any shore bombardment. I avoid getting a shaky situation in WG by building 2 of the mechs there.

    Attacking z106 with 2 subs makes it much more likely to succeed and taking a tr down as well. I sometimes go with only 1 sub, but then it’s because 2 subs would be needed in z111.

    Since G now got subs in two sz, I decided to move the remaining sub to z119 instead of z112. This is because UK only has 2 available des and this way I’ll secure to deny UK their NO.

    @trulpen I’d like to hear your thoughts…perhaps its mainly just keeping the US out of the war longer, and gaining German strength for the Barbarossa push?


  • An earlier GDOW against Russia doesn’t affect the US-entry, but it’s about income and military presence.

    In OOB it’s very easy to deny Russia its only NO, namely just put a sub in z125 until Archangel is safely controlled.

    In BM3 Russia has more objectives when at war. They’ll easily get 3 IPC from having no allied forces on its home turf. Beyond round 2 they’ll start to get income from the lend lease.

    The problem for Germany is they are still rather weak at the front with a lot of pansar behind in France. The 1-3 IPC from territories will likely be easily contested. Don’t think the nazis can even stack in E Poland, although with the extra units from a strafe of Yugo it could very well be possible.

    When DOWing G lose 5 IPC from russian resources, while R gain 3 IPC from their objective, hence it’s a -8 IPC equation (-7 if E Poland can be stacked).

    It’s true, however, that in R3 it will be atleast 7 extra income for R, but by that time G will have a lot more force to put into the advance and that will start to cripple the russian economy.

    Main point is that if G gets stuck, which will happen if the advance is premature, a turn is lost anyway and G might just as well hold on the DOW and prepare.

    I also prefer to give Italy better options than to have to attack Yugo, while it can also be golden to have that territory as german. There’re possibilities later on of building an ab and/or mIC there.

    Normally as a first Russian purchase I always go with 11 inf + 1 art

    I have to consider whether to keep a blockade in Siberia or run to Moscow (given the intentions of Hitler who bought to run in the steppe) …

    I am tempted to place tanks and mechs so that I can eventually help China in the early rounds (and then return when needed in Russia …)

  • Pretty standard moves, except for perhaps keeping stuff in Ukraine. Think the units are better placed in W Ukraine, although it does not matter so much atm.

    Regarding the purchase I would’ve bought only inf, saving 1 IPC. Same thing next turn. That way it’s possible to buy 13 inf on R3.

    Even though Russia is stronger in BM, its main focus is still defense. For certain in the early game and likely mid-game as well. Maximizing defense is therefore advisable.

  • There are several ways to open with J, but I usually do something like this.

    A mIC in Shantung (better placed there than in Kiangsu since it’s closer to the north) and 2 tr. One of J’s difficulties is getting land units to Asia and this way 3 inf will be produced steadily on the main land early on.

    I don’t believe a JDOW1 is particularly good in BM, contrary to OOB, so the only attacks are in China.

    Try to avoid risk of failing in Yunnan, so max that battle.

    Spare the art in Hunan because of the plentiful air, but move it in during NCM if no more than 1 casualty.

    Positioning of fleet is usually complex. Sometimes I stack more by the Carolines, but like here the plan is that an abundance of available air-force will dissuade the chinese from trying to stack Yunnan.

    Controlling Yunnan is very important for both sides.

    Not sure they will be able to make a significant impact unless they get into China on R1. Still, the pansar is pretty flexible in Kaz.
