1942 Online Tournament?

I’m currently 41-6 in games with 5 loses due to me getting a quitter who ruined his position.

I guess for 2 first games, a team can play as Axis and Allies, but what will happen with the 3rd game (if we consider that we need 2 wins from 3 matches to progress, and after the first 2 matches the score is 1:1)? Should we … use an online tool to define who will be which side in the 3rd game?
-
The way compass works is that when you lose you go to the bracket that says L13 or L19. You could potentially lose all 5 games.
I think I miss counted, I think it’s actually 4 games each.
-
Do you mean that only game is played at first? Who defines what side is taken then?
-
@JuliusBorisovBeamdog Usually for online play, this is taken care of with a bid.
For this, I guess it would have to be random.
-
Here’s what I’m thinking for the rules:
- Sides are pre-determined by the bracket position. Hopefully I can make it 1 game Allies and 1 game Axis for everybody
- +2 VC victory
- LH GC rules
- Game time is 2 weeks to win or complete at least 12 rounds.
- If 12 rounds are not completed in 2 weeks, then an extra week will be given.
- Stalling: if you are winning before going into the third week and do not play in a timely fashion, you will automatically lose. Your opponent, however, must bring your stallling to the attention of the tournament organizer with screenshots of the board position and that the game has not progressed.
-
Or maybe it should be victory, 12 rounds, or 3 weeks max?

Maybe we should keep it simple: as you can do in 3 weeks or at least 12 rounds if you go over the time “limit.”
If it takes longer than 4 weeks, then the organizer (me) will step in to find out what’s going on and make a ruling.
Regarding prizes, I’m thinking that I need to come up with 16 options and folks chose their favorite in ranked order. If you’re the overall winner and all you want is a sticker, then you get the sticker and somebody else can choose the bigger prize.

What is “+2 VC victory”?
I agree with @aardvarkpepper that there should be more than just one game, and players should play as Allies and Axis. This is why I asked about a 3-match stage.

@djensen said in 1942 Online Tournament?:
I’m thinking the tournament would be 16 players/teams in a Compass format. In that format, everybody plays 5 games and you end up with 8 ranked winners.
Here’s how it looks: https://www.printyourbrackets.com/images/16-compass.pdf
Could you not use a swiss format with a top 4 cut?

@aardvarkpepper That sounds pretty bad: not only getting only 2 VCs is not a problem, that actually doesn’t finish the A&A 1942 Online game.
-
@Slip-Capone Yeah, that might be easier to manage.
-
@djensen im in.
Only problem is that the Axis have a fairly large advantage in the long game. The rules variations make this worse. I’ve done alot of experimenting (40 more games) and without implementing bidding or tournament rules of some sort, the Axis are the team to beat.
-
I’ve had mixed results. I tend to play and win all my games - I need better opponents . The exception is games against @JuliusBorisovBeamdog, I’m losing 2 games both sides on that one.
-
@djensen Despite the success that doug and I had in the tournament with the allies, I’m about 50/50 in my allied games, and about 75/25 for my axis ones. Dave Marts devestated me repeatedly in our practice games with the axis.
The axis plan is simpler than the allied one and you can make more mistakes
casualty order seems to be a negative for the allies with their more complex sub submersion tactics and carriers vs fighters being lost on the retreat
no allied planes on carriers hurts allies much more than axis. Axis can land planes on top of each other on land more than they need to use each others carriers
also how would we verify results if they are not recorded automatically?
