For those interested, I have started a project with Google Maps to create a global map of all Axis and Allies players. It would make seeing where players are located, organizing events, and seeing who plays what much more simplified. It is a big project though, and I realize I would be spending a lot of time collecting player names from here and elsewhere. To make this easier I am requesting a few things:
- A way that players can put in limited information about their geographic location, what versions of A&A they have or are willing to play, and other such details.
- Some help! I started hand jamming some public usernames from this Facebook post but I realized before I even started doing that how long it would take. Putting information into a Google sheet or excel sheet would be the way to go for this process.
This would be of priceless value to the community and potentially could develop into some kind of app as well. I view this as a great way to get the community more organized! Here is a link to the project so far.

enable it, yo. Can you import the list for at least the last couple years from the main location thread?

@vodot Getting into an easily importable form is the tricky part. See the google forms link I just put up, I will be putting in names and locations as well as contact info weekly. Ideally, you could filter out people who play a specific version of A&A.

I wonder if I could enable something on the forums that would just do this for everybody who has set their location in their profile.

@djensen That would be great as well, a unity of effort on creating a player map would be awesome for local groups and figuring out where the best location to have a convention could be.
Ultimately, if you wanted to REALLY expand this, you could have this for all board games and filter out games people play and all other sorts of details.
But one step at a time, there are still issues with this method. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
