Re: AA50 National Advantage Cards
On this post, Many interesting national advantage. Some new. Unfortunatly, the 12 first Links are missing.
when you do post them can they be formatted for standard business cards template from avery? That way it will easily mate up with my paper inventory
I have worked up two sets of random events charts for Axis & Allies Classic, and A & A Pacific. I have keyed the charts to a standard 52 card deck, and you will need to cross-reference the card drawn to the chart. I had not thought of Avery business cards, but I have the templates for those in Print Shop, so I could also make them up that way. I was planning to market them with the charts, expansion rules for A & A Pacific to six players, possibly some additional plastic units, and a deck of the WW2 aircraft recognition cards to use for determining events. There will be charts for both the Allied and the Axis player, and the charts will not be the same. The events will be based on what happened or could have happened in World War 2, and may not necessarily effect all players equally. The areas for events are weather, technology improvements, production improvements, and what I call “windfalls”, for one time bonuses of either units or IPCs. The way they would be used are that each player will draw a card from the deck, and reference it to the event chart. If a weather event, the effects last for the duration of the drawing players turn. If a technology or production event, the effects are immediate, and last the remainder of the game. If a windfall, the effects are immediate, but do not last past the end of the drawing player’s turn. Some of the events will effect all of the Allied or all of the Axis players, and some will only effect the drawing player or one of the Allies or one of the Axis players. If the German player draws a card that is specifically for the Japanese player, “Japanese Banzai Tactics” (for example), the card has no effect and goes into the discard pile. The same applies to the Allied player. The set will have game-specific event charts for all of the Axis and Allies games: Classic, Revised, Pacific, and Europe. I suspect that I am going to also need a technology and production improvement chart with markers to keep track off which player has what bonuses. The cards would be subject to reshuffling once all are used, and drawn again.
I will be checking this week if I can include additional plastic unit counters for some of the changes in the game, such as Me-262, P-80 Shooting Star, and Gloster Meteor for jet fighters, the Superfortress for the US, additional fighters for everyone, maybe some medium bombers to use to start the game, and then use the Halifax and Flying Fortress for the heavy bomber upgrade, cruisers for home rule expansions, units for an Italian player, tanks specific to the British (probably the Churchill), tank landing craft for armor transport (LST and the Japanese equivalent, carry one tank or infantry or artillery unit, cost 6 IPC), some APD fast transports for the US (based on the converted 4-pipers, can transport one infantry unit with attack and defense of 2, cost 6 IPC), and maybe some transport planes and seaplane units. The idea for the air units would be that they could also be used in the War at Sea miniature game as additional air units, bombers circa 1/600 scale, fighters and attack aircraft circa 1/360 scale. The plastic will depend on how much the molds cost and the amount of lead time for them. Also, whether or not I can produce them in one color of plastic, and figure that the players are responsible for telling them apart.
Would you be interested is seeing a sample chart posted? I can put it up in PDF format if desired.
I’m not sure if Avery is an option for me, but I will check into it.
you just go to their site and download the template and plug in your cards. It would remove the need to cut anything each card is 3.5x2 inches
I’ve made a deck of cards for Classic some time ago (before I got revised). It uses a simple 52 deck + 2/3 jokers, which is subdivided into 4 subdecks for each suit. Each side would draw 3 cards each turn from any decks it choose and assign them to countries. Clubs was the Political deck, Diamonds Economic, Spades Strategic and Hearts Intelligence&Technology.
Some cards affected all countries, others were to be played either at the beginning of a round or when attacked. It could really add some randomness or new elements since there where cards for China Neutrality, Coalition Betrayal, Subversion, 5th Column, Inflation, Russian Winter, Unrestricted Submarine Warfare, Elite Units, etc.
well…. when are you people gonna post this stuff???
I would post the .doc file but this board doesn’t seem to allow attachments. Want me to email it to you?
EDIT - Nevermind, just figured out how to do it.

Attached is a sample random event card chart that I have worked up for Axis and Allies 2nd Edition. It is the Allied Players Chart. I have worked up an Axis Players Chart as well. It uses a standard card deck of 52 cards. The weather events only apply during the drawing players turn, and effect whatever players units are in the designated areas. The technology and production improvements are effective throughout the remainder of the game The windfalls are one time bonuses for that turn only. Obviously, there are explainations that need to accompany the chart, and I am working on those. I will be doing similar charts for Pacific, Revised, and then Europe. I intend to put these on the market as a set, along with additional material. Packaged with the set will hopefully be a set of the WW2 Aircraft Recognition Playing Cards. I am not too sure about the long-term wearability of the Avery business cards.

Oh for heaven sakes… can somebody just get cards made that:
I also have completed 10 of the 27 different card types, in the business card format that you requested, but am having trouble getting it posted to this site. I’m not too savy when it comes to changing formats, etc…
Crazy Ivan
@Imperious:
Oh for heaven sakes… can somebody just get cards made that:
- have a world war two picture related to and an explanation of what/ it effects the game?
- have some graphics that have no POKER information on them?
If you are looking for custom-made cards, and want an Avery business card size, you are asking for a fair amount of work. As for graphics, I have somewhere around 5,000 or so WW2 graphics, most of which will not fit on a busines card. Are you expecting to get these for free, or are you willing to pay for them?

I could make them in one day and it would look professional…I don’t need to pay for that. I could help people make them but the script has top resemble something more ‘dramatic’ in terms of scripting because as they stand now i will fall asleep reading them…
example: German card may read: Our Fuhrer grants you a retrofitted SS panzer division to reinforce your eastern front.
Effects:
For every 3 Tanks you buy and place in Soviet territories you receive one free conversion of an infantry division on the western front to a tank unit and it can be redeployed immediately on the eastern front.

Well, then, Imperious Leader, I suggest that you get busy and make your own, so that you can sell them with your Axis and Allies expansions. However, for someone who can crank them out is a day, you are pushing real hard for Crazy Ivan to supply you with his cards. And if my chart happens to turn up in your games, you better believe that a law suit will soon follow.
Id only use them if the game was to remedy a sleep disorder…and i don’t make these games

If you expect me to believe that, I assume that you also have a bridge in Minneapolis to sell me. You have been warned. And for your being in Germany, if you are, a picture of you as Colonel Klink would get you some nice prison time. I had major headaches with a reprint of a catalogue of captured German ordnance material, because every page had a swastika on it that had to be taken out.
This is your quote from post #33
when you do post them can they be formatted for standard business cards template from avery? That way it will easily mate up with my paper inventory
That pretty much tells me that you are looking to get something for free and then sell it. No one talks paper inventory unless you are planning to sell them. You are really leaning on Crazy Ivan for his card deck.
:-o
I have finished a set of cards. They are copyrighted, but I will show a preview to anyone who wants one.
All 71 cards have a picture along with the advantage text. A few cards are nation specific, but all the rest can be used by any nation. If historic is preferred then they are color coded to accomadate that preferance.
some of the special advantages last for the rest of the game, but most can only be used on the turn that the card is played.
Each player draws 2 cards on their turn, and may hold the second draw card if they wish for later, as a defense option, but the first card drawn must be played and used irregardless.
The variant cards are still in a play test stage, so some may not make it into final production due to any unbalancing problems in game play.
Card samples:
Coastal batteries, paratroops, rail guns, motorized infantry, rail movement, submarime interdiction of supplies, extreme bad weather, free technological breakthroughs, the “A” Bomb, and more!
I have written a short set of rules on how to use the cards as well as a list of the cards with futher information about the events, equipment, or strategies that the represent.
This project has been undertaken to increase the edjucational as well as fun aspect of Axis and Allies.
I hope someone someday will be able to include them for everyones enjoyment in online gaming as well.
respectfully to all,
Crazy Ivan
I guess i must have missed this:

When i ask for a change in format it is because its easier to print them up. It has nothing to do with selling cards. And my comments are only directed on the concept you elucidated. When i saw your work it was so ineffectual for anything of value I knew i could never use them for AARHE which was my only intention. I do all my own work thank you very much. AARHE is a community effort of sorts and would never be sold to anyone.
no wonder why you stopped posting here-
Crazy Ivan:
If your willing id like to consider using your cards for AARHE. Perhaps they can add flavor to our variant and allow enjoyment for others who play AARHE.
But playtest them first a bit before you have a decision either way.
Then we can add you as contributor to AARHE.
:-D
IL,
Both I and my business partner, ( my wife ) have put a great deal of time and effort into this project, as I know you can appreciate as much as you do in your many projects. So, I am sure you will understand when I say we would like to try to sell our work, not give it away. I would like to see this project go out to everyone who plays AA and AAE as well as other varients.
I will keep the public advised as to the availability of our Axis and Allies Varient Cards.
Respectfully to all,
Crazy Ivan
I like and deslike the idea of cards in the game. They take away action but also they bring random events which can be cool as two games will be very different.
One situation I see really improved with the use of cards is Diplomacy with neutrals IF youre into it. I did some a year ago and hope I can use them to influence neutrals in any map I do.
