perhaps with some map making type tutorials in the same way that Pact of Steel 2 taught how to create an xml and such

Ah yes, the repairing of BB, CA, and CVs at the 0 point VC – good call thanks. I keep forgetting about that requirement. Lots of new if/then clauses to remember.
Thanks on the SS clarification. We’re a little slow down here where the information superhighway meets the gravel road. So, the interpretation that was being promoted was 1 more SS than any ASW capability (e.g., 1 sub vs. a fleet with no Cruiser or Destroyer gets the +1 bonus). This seemed a bit over powered. So, I was looking to tighten it up so there wasn’t any wiggle room for argument.
I hate submarines now! But, that is how it should be.
look up both of the “Happy time” for the U-boats, and the effects on American subs to Japanese merchant shipping. W/o ASW technology, radar, sonar, naval sonar… the allies have major troubles to cope with. However, Japan also has some issues because of its island economy.
But remember subs cant hit air units and subs are not brought in as the same combat with naval surface units. Sub interactions are seperate.
Afternoon!
Back with another fist full of questions for both LITE & AARHE 4.0. For starters a few map clarifications:
There appears to be an intentional amphibious assault landing into Western Europe out of SZ 13. Is this correct?
Can the allies enter the Northeastern portion of SZ 5 (e.g., the part in front of the canal) in order to invade Germany?
We were curious what the intent behind the canal in Denmark is
Can a fleet in SZ 34 repair in Cairo, or is it cut off by the canal?
Do the VCs turn the whole country into a dock or just a specific SZ? (e.g., does Rio de Janeiro support SZs 22 & 18 or just SZ 22)
Thanks,
Bierwagen

SZ13 vs. Western Europe
SZ13 is not intended to be adjacent to Western Europe
similarly Karelia is not intended to be adjacent to SZ3
in this aspect AARHE is just as bad as the Revised map (borders not sharp enough)
SZ5
SZ5 and SZ12 are considered one sea zone
the canal/waterway icon are between the corresponding
so if you go from SZ6 to SZ5 you must engage enemy in SZ5
if you go from SZ12 to SZ13 you must engage enemy in SZ13
the situation at SZ5 is a little complicated and wasn’t draw clearly
we don’t want the revised-style SUPER SZ5 that was adjacent to 5 territories and 1 neutral
the Denmark situation
maybe there is better way to draw it that I overlooked
Canal in Denmark
the idea is that Denmark should be put in territory Germany rather than territory Western Europe,
the Denmark waterway is like Gibraltar, except with its promixty to Germany homeland it was a different kettle of fish
**repair at VC
interesting question, I didn’t think of that
I guess we don’t want inland VCs like Tehran or Toronto to repair ships
then again did Russia not have naval facilities at Black Sea?
it must be clarified (repair at sea zone adjacent to VC/IC…what is adjacent?) or people could consider ICs are built at VCs hence the same treatment as the example given at Cairo
dock at VC
does that mean we can’t dock at Turkey or Spain?**
then again did Russia not have naval facilities at Black Sea?
yes they had a black sea fleet part of it was stationed at Sevastopol
Cairo is facing the Medd. Its not in the red sea. Dock for repair or whatever would be from Medd.
Spain has its IC adjacent to both sides, so the deployment can be either. Turkey should be in Dardanelles which is a natural port for military ships
Gah!

I spent all that effort printing off and gluing these wonderful maps IL created. Then I covered them with clear plastic.
/cry.
Its easily fixed!!!
I will make a sticker you can DL and cover up the wrong line with a strip of water, and another decal for the new line.
Again just tell me which line your talking about?
Ill have it ASAP

Brilliant! I’m not sure why I didn’t think of that. Now I can mod to my hearts content!
I haven’t done anything special. Before I committed $135 to Kinkos for a full banner print of the maps, I used MS Publisher to print them off. I used a small overlap, for alignment purposes, on 8.5" x 11". After carefully trimming and taping them all together the map was glued to a nice 1/16" pressboard surface on a 1" x 2 " frame for stability.
I tried shellac on my first prototype, but it started warping, so I framed them and put some felt coasters on the bottom so it wouldn’t scratch other surfaces.
Since shellac didn’t work too well, someone had the bright idea to use clear contact paper (e.g., 24’ x 18" rolls for ~$5 @ Home Depot). Voila! Cheap and easy way to protect it.
The first board came out at 55" x 30" and the second one was slightly smaller at 48" x 28". They even fit nicely in the back of my Toyota Corolla ;-)
The extra elbow room was a big hit at our recent gathering.
I’ll post some pictures next time I get a functioning camera – they are all on the fritz again.
I go for budget and just print them on consumer printers
not top quality stuff
no big impact of A0 poster
but its good that its modular
like modular armour hehe
I may have to create ghost print lines on the AARHE map for each 8.5x11 section so people can more easily print from desktop printer… I could prepare a guide on printing out the map to make it easy.
I do know about a polyurethane gloss that you spray over paper to protect it from moisture… you buy this from any art store and it comes in a large can. Its important because changes in moisture may run the ink.
another proposal is you buy the cold lamination sheets and stick them on like tape all over the pages to protect them. Id would think you should buy the legal size so it overlaps the 8.5x11 ( 11x14)
ghost lines?
I just chop the image
The ‘ghost experiment’ didn’t work as it deluded the colors… oh well.

OMG - Turkey! What the hell does the strait do?
You disconnected sz 14 from sz 16.
The axis converted Turkey to their side with -5 and the Turkish army popped up. Now they want to move the army from Turkey through the Bosporus Strait to the Balkans because it is colored grey on both sides. Germany has fallen to US/UK and this is the closest army they have – so the situation is dire.
Can you clarify the intent of this map modification? It is our first time this has happened and we can’t come to consensus.
I thought this area represented the gun implacements there used for defense, not a land bridge.
Thanks in advance,

The strait does represent control by Turkey against all enemies prohibiting passage of naval into or outside of Black sea, Use strait interdiction rules on this against Soviet ships . Turkey at -5 allows her units to move outside and fight along side German units anywhere in Europe. Also, Turkey can build units up to her income because she has a factory.
I also thought you said that the Axis were always winning the games? So guess the allies are learning a few tricks?
The real question: Is Turkey now connected to the Balkan’s via that little sliver of land?
We converted the neutrals to German units, but couldn’t figure out if they were allowed to move straight to the Balkan’s or did they have to take a different route.
It was close, but Axis still won. Russia was overrun by the Japanese and German was still getting 17 IPC even at 50% reduction.

The territory of Turkey DOES connect, allowing passage of war material into the south eastern Europe, providing Turkey is at war. So yes.

They can thats the point of getting Turkey on your side so Germany can get panzers into Soviet back door or Africa and avoid needing ships to transport that stuff.

The lend lease was supposed to be 50% more NOT reduction. If you reduced LL to Russia by 50% no wonder they lost.
Try playing with historical victory conditions ( no japs into Russia unless Moscow falls)

No, you misunderstood. I was trying to say that Germany had fallen. Thus, Germany was only getting 50% income, because it’s capital was in enemy hands.
So both Germany and Russia had fallen and it was a race between the 3 remaining powers – and what popped up in Turkey. That’s why we were so interested in what Turkey was connected to.
I like that rule about no Japn in Russia until Moscow falls. That should raise some eyebrows.
See ya.

Ok now i understand…

Well it seems like a very close game. Id like to know what you guys decided to do about the lend lease in that game, relating to our previous discussion about axis victory happening in most of the games…

The pure way to play is to then play 1939, and keep existing lend lease rules, but use the rules regarding No japan enters Soviet unless moscow falls and no Soviets in Japanese controlled territories until Berlin falls.
Evening IL,
Well the Las Vegas crowd has returned and we’ve got 10-12 of us gathering tomorrow for our monthly “wring out” AARHE Lite+ event.
We have 10 signed up for sure, with 1-2 more in the unknown category. I’m hoping to incorporate Italy for any stragglers that showed up. However, in trying to make some overlay templates (e.g., modify Germany, Norway, & Australia) I noticed that the 1942 maps don’t have any of the VCs on them – so I’m not sure what to do. Should I use the VC values from 1939 (e.g., 5 for Rome and 2 for Poland)?
I also think Southern Germany should have some troop levying capability. All those brown shirts and Austrians just sitting around drinking bier were easily thrown into uniforms ;-)
Hopefully I can eventually convince them to play 1939, but it has been hard enough to introduce AARHE & Lite.
So, if you have any spare time would you mind updating:

- VC’s, Mobilization Values, Neutral forces, & Canals/Straits
Thanks in advance!
Very nice! 10 people is quite a feat for your group.
I will support anything you need. Ill get the file modified for your special needs.
Just need a few days.
