RE: NL (X) vs The_Good_Captain (L)
For me, I would say I have mixed emotions about playing on here. Partly, I like the Play-by-Forum cause it usually offers more calculated moves and well thought through strategies. More eye for detail.
On the other hand, I would say I miss the tabletop excitement and the slight miscalculations, and a higher pace. Most significant is the battle calculator. If it’s there, you can use it to plan battles two/three turns ahead, and you will always do so. I think this impairs the game and improves it at the same time. Taking a chance, not knowing exactly if it’s 60-40 or 40-60, adds something. It doesn’t hurt the core of the game though, which for me is the game of balancing daring, control by setting yourself up with the best chances possible and handing over control to luck when the time comes. -

@the_good_captain I will start my Japanese mindset and we’ll await Lederhosens German move :)

@the_good_captain That’s okay, the offloading of units in combat from multiple transports has always been a thing. Everything seems to be right though :)

@The_Good_Captain Could you edit the placed fighter from Manchuria to East Indies?

RE: The Good Captain (Allies) vs Lederhosen & Hansworst (Axis) - Anniversary '41
@the_good_captain Well, purely mathematically, I think Germany and Japan are best off with ‘easy’ or ‘effortless’ points. Italy might be worst off, along with Russia.
Germany has +10 they shouldnt lose if they play half decent and usually are in contention for either Karelia or Caucasus at all times up until about round 8. Japan has a quite natural + 10 as well, going up to a max of + 25 if they just do what makes sense for them in expanding.
My assumption is that it favors axis too much in rounds 3-10, where the difference is usually made. If France comes into play frequently, it might help close the deficit for allies. Even so, it would more limit the allies in tactical options and it doesn’t hamper the axis in any way.
I feel global has better objectives. Pushing Japan to obtain 0-point islands for a bonus, having Italy put up a good fight for mare nostrum e.g.
I have to be honest here, we haven’t played with NO. That’s because axis usually has the upper hand in our game and we’re looking towards small advantages for the allies more when we try out house rules.

RE: TGC (axis) vs Ozy, LH, and HW (allies) AnA Anniversary '41, no bid
@the_good_captain I think your assumption is correct. For myself at least, I can say that current outlook in the game is a big part of risk-assessment. I would say that a 27% chance of glory are good odds when you think there’s a 1% chance you would win the game.
It’s a part of the decision making, but surely not the only part. In the case of the 27% battle, I felt it was a good thing to do. If it were a 5% battle, it could be considered bad gamesmanship. You have to stay realistic and have a reasonable chance on a good outcome and a good outcome should always bring you a good gain in the game. Also, if you have to try a risky one to try to get back in the game, try it on a fleet. Single hits or misses can bring about huge IPC swings.
This battle would have been particularly entertaining if the 20% on Birma would have worked, but that was a big ask. -
RE: TGC (axis) vs Ozy, LH, and HW (allies) AnA Anniversary '41, no bid
@the_good_captain I would say the allies have to go balls out to make a big impact where it counts and not a weak impact everywhere. Problem with that is that you basically hand over economic power to the axis and an experienced player will always see the mass-attack coming. An uncontested Japan will become a monster and an uncontested Germany will simply walk all over SU.
A well placed bid would really help slow the axis down in some strategical places. I find Egypt a real weak spot in round 1, so one could say that 1 or 2 infantry there could already help restore balance. Make Italy and Germany work for the African income.

@andrewaagamer
Only the fighters fire in the air battle, attacking bombers don’t fire. Air battle is preceeded by AA fire on all attacking air units, defending fighters fire at 2, attacking fighters fire at 1.

RE: AndrewAAGamer (L+6) vs Hansworst Ann'41
@andrewaagamer I think the lightning start and especially those retreating units from Egypt gave me a headstart. Also, G1 was incredibly good dice for me. The Egypt units is a map-experience thing. You either keep the fighter with them for 1 more turn, or retreat to TJ to link up with the 2 inf. That one will not happen to you again in the semi-final ;)
Japan is always a huge powerhouse. Those 13 units a turn are too much in the long run when Germany holds up decently. Probably I could have played Germany more conservative, but I also believe you need to at least push the limits to win when ahead. I don’t like games on this map that make it to round 15 haha.
I am quite used to allied players trying to strike back with Russia, build 1 or 2 fighers and exchange territories. Your retreating and building landunits only tactic worked very well. I’ll take that lesson with me for future games for sure.

@andrewaagamer I throw in the towel. Well played! I made a mistake in not covering my bases well enough (keeping the pressure on a potential France landing). I very much enjoyed this game. I like that you hit the weak spot right away and took a chance there. Lots of players would have waited for a better opportunity or beat around the bush more.
