I think I was talking about digi-draw, but I am unsure if you can resize things with it. Basically I want to make a huge and permanent A&A map on a large table. I would probably also add some territories to get the exact map I want.

RE: US Civil War in 4 Minutes
dictates or dictatorship?
The Constitution isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. The Civil War took care of a lot of that. FDR took it a lot further. Bush is taking it to even further extremes. Other presidents are guilty, but those three and Lincoln were/are the worst violators of the Constitution. The Constitution is a great idea. I would love to see this country follow it. Unfortunately it is now only a myth they teach in schools.

RE: Looking for a gadget
There was something that they were selling on TV just a few years ago. I will try and look for E-Z Tracer if it does the same thing. Thanks for the tip.

Looking for a gadget
A couple of years ago they use to sell a gadget that let you trace an outline and resize whatever you were tracing. It was one of those only available on TV, 19.95 deals. I can’t remember what it was called, but I would love to get my hands on one. Can anybody help me remember what it was called?

RE: US Civil War in 4 Minutes
Oh, and for the record, the number one reason for the Confederate states leaving was their feelings of inadequacy. Lincoln’s election showed them that they were powerless against the Northern states. He didn’t carry a single electoral vote in the South. He didn’t appear on most Southern state’s ballots. He still won the election. When the South saw that, they were convinced they would never be able to get anything they wanted from the Northern dominated federal government. Slavery became an issue mostly to keep the more liberal Europeans out of the war and to appease the abolishonists. Now as far as the direct cause of the Civil War, I’d have to go with attacking Ft Sumter. However, I think war would have come one way or another.

@ncscswitch:
Um…
Just FYI: The United States is NOT a Democracy.
We are a Federated Republic (at least that is what we are SUPPOSED to be) ARguably that could also be said to be a Democratic Federated Republic. Either way that is dramatically different from a Democracy.
The US is an oligarchy. They just brainwash the children in school to think it’s a democracy.

RE: More on religion….
For starters, it is a lot easier to win a case in civil court than it is to win in criminal court. In criminal court you have to prove guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt. As an example the families of the victoms in the Simpson killings won in civil court. O.J. was aquitted in criminal court. Secondly, where is your proof that these people are lying? Since we’re on the subject of proving stuff, where is your proof of this grand liberal scheme? I’ll end with saying that I cannot stomach how quickly people take each other to court in today’s America. If it can ever be proven that any of these people lied, they should get life in prison. I also believe that quite a few lawsuits are somewhat silly these days. I cannot believe that the cases are heard, let alone the fact that people win them (for the record, coffee should be hot, and anyone that doesn’t understand that should be shot and not given $5 million). I’ll stop before I really go off on a tangent.

RE: Axis & Allies Guadalcanal September 2007
@Imperious:
huh?
Its only 2 players… who else was in the battle?
I do know this:
Each player ( specifically the japanese player) will be able to draw additional reinforcements into the game ( thus they are variable) such as additional warships and planes, except that victory points are lost if he has to win with more than what was historical. You have the flexibility to enlarge the battle but at the cost of losing the game on points.
remember the battle was a slow escalation over a long period of time as each side was feeling out the other… The japanese waited too long to reinforce after they started to pull out and lost the campaign.
I could see four players. One for US sea units, one for US land, one for Japanese land, and one for Japanese sea. They don’t have to stick to just two players. I would probably be a bit disappointed if they did.

Abilene, TX: Anyone play in the Big Country?
I play face to face. I’m looking to get a group of around 8 or so players for weekend games held maybe biweekly. I have the MB version, revised, D-day, BoB, Max’s rules 1&2, and am looking to get more variations. Send me a private message if interested.

RE: The War Game - Massive Axis and Allies Variant
Well the big reason I wanted to know how many of each piece you get is because I have a hang up of using German pieces for anybody but Germany and maybe Italy. I wanted to go ahead and buy pieces for the US, UK, USSR, China, and France so I’d have them by the time I bought this game.
-
RE: The War Game - Massive Axis and Allies Variant
Does anyone know the breakdown of those 500 plastic pieces? How many Wehrmacht infantry, SS infantry, battleships, etc? It would be advantageous for me to know so I can get a jump on buying enough pieces for the US, UK, Japan, USSR, China, and France. Imperious Leader, you seem to be in the know. Do you have any idea on how many of the specific units we’ll get with the set?
-
RE: The War Game - Massive Axis and Allies Variant
What I will probably do then is use all the pieces that come with the game for Germans and Italians. I should be able to get enough spare pieces for the other countries from Imp Games, Xeno games, Milton Bradley, and Avalon Hill. I can get special units (rockets and such) from any 1/300 or 1/285 manufacturer. It’s still a shame that there are only German pieces. They look great, but I’d like to see pieces for the other countries come with the game.
-
RE: The War Game - Massive Axis and Allies Variant
Is there any word on when this game will be released? Also, does anyone know if there will be plastic pieces available seperately for the first 2000 people that buy the game? I wouldn’t mind getting all German pieces if there would be an option for buying pieces for the other countries at another time.

Enemy at the Horizon by The Black Baron Game Company
Does anyone know where you can get a copy of this expansion online? I’ve gone all over the net, but I haven’t had much success finding it.

RE: The War Game - Massive Axis and Allies Variant
@Imperious:
Look here… the guy is just starting out.
That is no excuse for not having any convoy zones
Maybe the game developers didn’t like convoy zones? I don’t see how you can not like a new set of rules just because it is lacking one rule. Maybe they have other rules that improve the game in different ways. Maybe you could add the convoy zones. There’s nothing saying that you can’t include or disregard any rule in any expansion. I plan on getting a copy when the game goes on sale. I’m sure me and my group will come up with a set of house rules that we like.

RE: Looking for expansions
Well, they’re already asking for more. :-D
It took me forever to get to any kind of advanced rules. I’m not even sure they had advanced rules when I started playing (mid-80s). It wasn’t until around 94 or so that the guys on my first ship started playing. We almost immediately started playing advanced rules after we started playing A&A then.
I think I’ll let them come up with strategies/tricks on their own. It’s really great to see how excited they get when they figure out a new trick.

RE: New version…
How about use this idea for a new bidding system? Let people bid between 1-6 on what turn the Soviets can enter the war. Low bid plays the Axis.

RE: Looking for expansions
My sons have been doing o.k. with revised. They understand the game mechanics pretty well. They haven’t even begun to figure out any sort of strategies yet. :-) I guess I am asking two different questions. While I enjoy playing with my sons and their friends, I am trying to get a bunch of my friends involved in it. There are a few of them that use to play. I think the more advanced rules would make them a bit more interested. I have D-day, BotB, and another editon of revised on the way. It was a package deal on Ebay. I’ll look those over and see which I’lll use with my sons and their friends and which I’ll use with my friends. I also bought nine of those little plastic tackle boxes. It’s a lot nicer than those styrofoam trays that come with the original game to store your pieces in. I do think World at War will be next. I loved the older version and can’t wait to see what they did with revised.
One expansion I kinda wanted to ask about that I have never tried is the set from Pewter Craft. I’m not sure it’s a lot more rules. Rather, it looks like some new pieces with rules for the pieces (commandos, paratroopers, rockets, etc).
One thing about the advanced rules and the younger group that I thought of though. I could get them involved in some advanced rules games, but have them play minor powers (France, Italy, and China). That way the adult players could kind of hold their hands through the more advanced rules (Germany guides Italy, UK/France, US/China). That would free up the adults from having to play two countries, and it would help my boys and their friends learn some of the more interesting rules sets.

RE: Looking for expansions
I am actually restarting. I started playing the MB version back in the 80s. In the 90s I had a bunch of expansions for it. The game is not hard to grasp for me. That’s why I was asking about expansions.
You do bring up a good point though. If D-Day is easier, I might use that to help my sons understand the basics of the game. We’ve played revised, but I’m not sure they get the whole thing yet. I should have D-Day in a little over a week. I will probably pick up Europe, Pacific, Battle of the Bulge, and World at War as well at that time. I’ll just play D-Day with my sons and play the others with my friends.
I don’t think I’m interested in A&A minis. I already play 40K for a more advanced game. If I wanted to do a WW II game with miniatures, I’d probably go with Flames of War. I have a few of those books, but nobody else around me ever got interested in it. One quick question about A&A minis: are the pieces compatable with regular Axis and Allies? Some of those miniatures look really nice. I wouldn’t mind picking a few up and painting them for use in other versions of Axis and Allies.
I still love Axis and Allies though. It’s easy to teach. My biggest problem with it is that it is fairly predictable. Most games play out in only a couple of different ways. That’s why I loved the expansions I had in the 90s. That’s also why I am looking at different expansions and/or rules sets. I am very interested in The Struggle for Europe and Asia and The War Game: WW II. Those seem to be very different in the way they pan out.

RE: Looking for expansions
I did look there. Most of those threads kind of devolved into talking about strategies. There are also different threads for different expansions. I wanted one thread with advice about which expansions I should look at getting first.
