Hello everybody !
I’m glad to join your community and I love Axis and Allies !! First of all, please excuse my mistakes, I’m Belgian and English is not my native language.
Yesterday, I played AnA for the first time, with the global rules. I loved it! We were 3 noobies, and we spent a lof of time reading the rules (I have a 2012 edition bought in January and we also used this thread to be sure: http www harrisgamedesign com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=6149) while we were playing. I would have some questions if you would accept to answer them.
A) We played for almost 7 hours, and I feel that we would have needed 3 more hours to complete the game. How much time do you normally need for one game, and how much time do you need for one complete turn and one complete round? How many games did you play before reaching this duration? I’m asking because it takes a lot of time to play an entire game, and I’d like to be able to evaluate the time I will need.
B) Another question regarding France: if Germany conquers Paris on the first turn, do the Germans get 19 IPC, or not? If one capital (par exemple Berlin) is conquered by the soviets, they get Germany money. If Germany gets it back, Germany does not have its money back. If Germany is once again conquered by the Soviets, do they get once again Germany money?
C) About the bridging and the troops transports, can you tell me what I can do: I own UK, I got one tank on it, and one troops transport and one battleship on the SZ110, and Belgium is owned by the Germans with one german tank on it. 1) During my combat move, can I attack Belgium with my tank? The tank can move 2 spaces, so first space is stepping on the transport, and the second space is arriving in Belgium. Is it right? 2) Can I consider it an amphibious assault and use offshore bombardment with my battleship?
I own UK, I got one tank on it, and one troops transport and one battleship on the SZ111, and Belgium is owned by the Germans with one german tank on it. 1) during my combat move, can I move the transport and the battleship on SZ110, and then attack with my tank as I just stated above? Is the answer different if Germany owns Belgium, but does not have any units on it?
I have a feeling that the rules are very strict regarding the amphibious assault.
D) About bonus IPC for the USA: the rules book talks about the “control” of some territories. All of those territories are owned, at the beginning of the game, by the USA. Does it mean that once the USA are at war, it gains 25 bonus income per turn, unless an enemy conquers one of the necessary territories (which means that many territories, at least 4, should be conquered to steal them all their bonus income)? Same question for the UK, with a small difference: the rules book states something about owning its “original territories”. I guess that it refers to the territories with a british flag on them, and not every territory where a british unit is located (France, per exemple). Do I understand this correctly?
E) About submarines: I have a fleet on the SZ17, with battleships, destroyers, cruisers, transports and one submarine. The fleet is attacked by planes only from Japan. The submarine does not take part (did I get this right?). Are the transports obliged to take part in the combat? 1) If yes, do they automatically die once all the combat sea units (except the submarine which did not take part to the combat) are dead? 2) If no, do they survive once all combat sea units (except the submarine which did not take part to the combat) are dead, for the reason that they are still escorted by the submarine?
I will have a lot of other questions in the future, but right now, that’s it, I won’t dirsturb you anymore!
I wish you all a lot of fun playing the game, and a nice evening!
