And the other possibility I was thinking of, let say that Ger has a fleet next to Uk in SZ7. Uk has two fighters four spaces away from SZ7. Can those fighters attack when a CV has been purchased knowing they’d land there if they survived?

The fighters could legally attack, since the placement of the carrier would allow them a landing spot.  However, since they used all of their movement to get to the battle, they would have none left to retreat, so it would be a fight to the death.  The fighters would either clear the sea zone (including possible submerging by subs) or be destroyed.  If the fighters survive, the carrier must be placed in the sea zone.  If they don’t the carrier could still be placed in the sea zone, or it could be placed in another sea zone if there is another one available.

Edit:  Just to be clear, this answer applies only to LHTR, as using all of a fighter’s movement for combat movement would be legal under the box rules only if an existing carrier moved into the sea zone during either Combat or Noncombat Movement.

Well if the play with three people is a  must D-Day and BOTB and Guadalcanal are out. D-Day as US and Brits and Axis but the Brits and US each move as the Allies. BOTB and Guadalcanal are straight up two player games.

I really like BOTB.

I have not played Guadalcanal yet but it seems like fun. D-day and BOTB have reinforcement charts but G’canal allows you to determine your own reinforcements more like the global or entire theatre games.

Frankly it is really apples and oranges s to me but I don’t think I could go back to Classic after Revised.

If you look to the articles or strategies sections from the main page you will find Saburo Sakai’s Pacific essays. Read those and if you are still leaning to Pacific or it seems like it might be boring quickly you will no whether to go with it or research one of the other games.

D-Day is fast. BOTB is a little longer but has combat and movement like none of the other games and the aspect of supply management is great. Too soon to be informative on G’Canal but it seems like logistics will be important if not more so than picking the right fights. These games are best as two player though.

Europe is, I think, closest to Revised and probably best for a three player game. Pacific is cool because of the Victory points and spending 70 or so IPCs every turn with the US and is also three player.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either Europe or Pacific if three player is important to you. Just my $0.02.  :-)

Can i agree with the fact that in the current rules the carrier does NOT have to move if the fighter was destroyed, but at the same time not agree with the rules itself ?

Because it is not logical that the carrier does not start its move to meet up with the figher at the same time since it it start after the figher completed its move in a normal situation it would not be there on time to catch the aircraft.

Basicaly the time it takes for the carrier to get there is the same as the time it takes for the fighter to get there and since the carrier needs to be there at the same time in order for the pilot to remain dry it logical should start sailing in the general direction of the pickup point.

Since the Fighter in question could be “flying” from Gibraltar to the Caucus in one turn, I don’t think the model of aircraft taking off and landing as part of a days flight operations on a Carrier quite applies.  Especially since Naval aircraft are built very differently from land based aircraft yet the game makes no difference between the two.

or you could play World at War 2005 where all these problems are solved.

A/A guns can roll up to 3 dice per combat round and may not fire more than one die at each attacking aircraft.  More than one A/A gun can be used in a territory.  They fire just like any other normal unit.  They can also be used as Anti-tank guns and casualties.

Oh yeah, defending and attacking fighters exchange fire for one round against SBRs.  Fighters accompanying an SBR have a range of 6.  They also have a range of 6 if they do not participate in combat that turn.  A/A guns can fire for one round during the SBR and normally in a normal attack in the same turn.  SBRs can damage/destroy factories, so the stakes are higher.  Factories can be repaired but if they are not, certain penalties apply.  For instance, if you hit well enough, you can prevent the factory from putting out tanks, A/A guns, ships and/or aircraft.  You can also bomb runways and limit the amount of defending fighters able to defend against SBRs.  In short, you can actually have a real Battle of Britian.  One more way World at War is superior.
