Great Leyte Gulf alternate timeline article

To commemerate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the Center for International Maritime Security released what I’ve found to be the most detailed and comprehensive reimagining of this gigantic battle. Japanese admiral Takeo Kurita’s decisions during the battle have always invited a flurry of speculation (including from me), and it’s amazing to see such a rigorous analysis of the possibilities in this engagement. It helpfully also gives a brief summary of the (sadly) obscure battle for those who don’t know much about it. I highly reccomend it, even if it’s (deservingly) a bit long. Very well sourced.

@SuperbattleshipYamato hard to argue against any of this really. The IJN was so far gone by this point in the war that there’s not really much they could have done to salvage their situation one way or another. The bit about the allies not having many LSTs in general is something I never knew before though.
