    My new philosophy is such: the CP always lose from the UK pushing from India through Constantinople, and thus something needs to be done. I thought that, if I could take Russia with enough units left over, perhaps I could afford to extend that front instead of just hauling everybody back and be useless for 4-6 turns. That way I am utilizing all my pieces sooner and extending the Ottomans’ lifespan. I have also had a few lucky roles, I admit.

    All that to say that the CP in my experience always lose on the eastern half of the board and never the western. The Germans and Austrians have time and the rules on their side on the west; I can spare units for Persia as long as I continue to slightly outproduce Italy at least, that way I can still eventually take Rome or threaten Paris from the south. Those are my thoughts. I don’t think you mishandled anything, per se, but I am liking my new strategy, at least for the moment. It will lead to longer games, but perhaps some CP wins.

  • @SuperbattleshipYamato if the reference is to blocking up the UK in India, yes - I’ve both done that as the CP and fought against it as the Entente. Both with and without the balance. Let me know if I missed something else or what the strategy is otherwise.

  • @The_Good_Captain If you don’t mind my asking, how did you handle it as the Entente? My gut reaction would be to trade space for time as the UK, maybe even give up Persia (but never India) to spend time and money bulking up in France so as to maybe push into the Ruhr and really threaten Germany’s economy.


  • @Tamer-of-Beasts My opinion of what happened over there and its result is that this is a consequence of the early collapse of Russia and an example of a domino affect. The CP made such early and such short work of Russia that they just hit the gas pedal and kept going.

    Still, this situation was almost entirely avoided by the Entente. The UK turn 4 attack into seva should have cleared the territory 2/3 of the time. In this case the Entente failed to clear it by a single, critical piece. This allowed so many options for the CP instead of ending the crisis for the Entente. If the Entente had cleared the territory, it would have either forced uphill attacks by the CP or forced them to do something other than simply stack up in a contested Seva. I don’t think the dice were critical but I do feel like I see a consistent “leaning” towards the CP in this area of the board (including the aforementioned fight in Seva) which doesn’t help Entente given everything else.

    So in short, I believe that a Russia that lasts longer (even just a turn longer) and takes more out of the CP will keep this from becoming an opportunity for the CP going forward. Even one more turn probably would have prevented this from happening.

    Seva is one of my favorite flashpoints on the board though. Well played ToB. You definitely leaned into some of the early advantages that appeared for the CP and it all worked out.
