Q&A for Beamdog
-
Something that’s fun to do whenever a new A&A game comes out (online or tabletop) is to do an interview with the game designer/developer. Let’s start a running list of questions for Beamdog.
Obviously some of the questions can’t be answered until Early Access.
Here are some questions to kick it off.
- How long have you been playing Axis & Allies?
- How did this project come about? Why Axis & Allies?
- How long has it been in development?
- How does the AI work? Scripted or machine learning?
- Why Axis & Allies 1942 SE?
- Are there any plans to bring other versions of Axis & Allies to the online platform?
Beamdog has a weekly Q&A so the answers will appear on their blog. @JuliusBorisovBeamdog can provide more details.

This was fun last time (AAZ), so I’ll throw my hat in the ring again:
-
How hard was it to get WOTC’s blessings.
-
Was Larry involved in any capacity?
-
Will there be online tournaments?
-
Is the setup the OOB setup or the LHTR (from ~ last year. The one with the Bomber in Ukraine, etc.)
-
If the setup was the OOB, is bidding or some similar system included to account for the massive imbalance towards the Axis?
-
If the setup is neither OOB or LHTR, what is it?
-
When is the bloody Early Access starting? It’s been like 10 days since the announcement.
-
Are there plans to adapt other versions (Classic, Revised, Anniversary, Global, Zombies, 1914, etc.) a la TripleA? TripleA has no support for 1914 and Zombies so I’d kill to be able to play either of those against AI or online.

Beamdog is doing monthly QA sessions based on the community questions posted in this thread: https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/74182/ask-beamdog#latest . Major questions are selected and then being posted on the blog - http://blog.beamdog.com/ (the first such blog enty, based on January questions, will be posted very soon).
Also, take note a few questions might have been already answered. Eg. “The main reason Beamdog is making Axis & Allies Online is because our CEO, Trent Oster, has a passion for the board game, and he’s shared that with the team — we’re all hooked now!” https://venturebeat.com/2019/02/11/with-axis-allies-online-beamdog-goes-beyond-enhancing-old-dd-games/

@DoManMacgee said in Q&A for Beamdog and CEO Trent Oster:

Did Larry come up with that? We’ve been using it at Gen Con for two, or is it three, years now.

@djensen I am not aware that Larry ever has published anything newer than this:

 I guess it was 2017 when Greg started using that setup at Gen Con. Okay, thanks for the clarification.

Sorry, the post Panther alluded to is the one I was thinking of. I can’t believe so much time has gone by since then. My bad.
