Voyager becomes first probe to leave our solor system

Today in 117AD Hadrian, the adopted son of  Trajan, became the new Roman Emperor. Trajan had ruled for nearly twenty years and had enlarged the Empire greatly. Hadrian in his twenty one year rule would be just as good for Rome. He left behind four great building works, which remain today.
The first was to rebuild Agrippa’s Pantheon, adding the 141ft diameter Dome. It has massive bronze doors and now a church, has buried two of Italy’s kings and the artist Raphael amongst others.
On the river Tiber is the Castel San Angelo, another stone dome building, this one built as his own tomb. It has been used as a fortress by more than one Pope when Rome has been threatened. It housed Pope Clement VII when the forces of the (Spanish)Holy Roman Empire sacked the city in 1527. It is well worth a visit if you ever go to Rome. A coffee from the battlements’ cafe’ is a good end to a walk around the military museum it is now.
The third monument is the beautiful Villa at Tivoli.
Lastly is the wall he had constructed in the North of England to keep out those pesky Picts(Scots). It was 15ft high and stretched 73 miles from coast tocoast and there was a fort every five miles.
Hadrian had been unwell for some time and despite seeking death and requesting it of his adopted son Pius, who refused to aid him, he died  aged 62 in his villa at Baie on the Bay of Naples.

Napoleon abdicated today, the 11th April, 1814. He had been ruler of 70 million people, 30 million of them French, the rest Spanish, Belgian, Dutch, some Italian and German. He had also ruled parts of Poland and Yugoslavia. Then he attacked Russia. After the disaster that was Russia he was outnumbered two to one by a coalition of Austrian, Prussian, Russians and Swedes at the battle of Leipzig, losing this battle.  This too had come  after the loss of Spain to Wellington(June 1813).
On the 31st March 1814 the Allies entered Paris. His Generals persuaded him to abdicate in favour of his 3 year old son. His 10 year Empire had come to a close.
He tried to poison himself on the 12th, but ended up vomiting and not dying.  On the 29th he was on his way to exile on Elba.
He would return.

I dont take offense to the word newbe or beginer, we all were at one time.
I like to use the words “new player”, and we always team them up with the best players at our board, we show them as much as we can and explain why we do certain things and the game isnt the end of the world if you crap out on rolls or make a bad move.
We also tell them why we attack where we do and each player has a different plan of attack,and let them choose what they want to do. Some times we reset pretty early too
Its good when a newly started player gets good dice and they can hammer an old pro

I request that scientists creating/studying anti-matter do their experiments in some other universe.

Earth’s average distance is 93,000,000 million miles from the sun.

93m miles divided by 186t seconds = 500 light-seconds

Well, i was not asking for the country (i would have guessed that Boeeing sits in the US) but for the state :). Anyway, there are more important things to know.

I agree. For logistic reasons it is far easier for Japan to defend itself than it is for the US to attack it. Japan should be able to destroy most of the USs initial navy in round 1 while retaining most of its own fleet. There is no reason for Japan to build a navy to confront the USs navy if the US goes after Japan. Japan should be building a force of tanks to go after Russia and if the US wants to go after Japan that force can easily be turned on the US if Japan has to defend NE Asia. Japan should retain several fighters that are great for defense as well and one round of buying infantry can go a long way towards providing a defense against the US if they are foolish enough to go after Japan. Remember, it only costs Japan 3 ipcs for a unit of infantry in Asia and 5 for an armor plus a one shot 15 or so for an IC or two. It costs the US 7 for a unit of infantry ((3+3+8)/2) that only attack at a 1, and 13 for a tank (5+8).

Germany would love to have to contend with two countries rather than three. US goes after Japan is a very bad move IMO.

If you say these guys are skilled players, then that explains it all. Skilled players don’t loses convincingly when playing the Allies under the normal set of rules.

I just had a dominating victory as the Axis against some friends who have a lot of experience but haven’t played in a while. They are convinced that their poor rolling was the reason they lost so badly. They believe this because there was no single move that they made that proved to be devistating to their objectives. However, it was obvious to me -and my partner- that their over all strategy (or lack there of) was very weak. They should know better.

If these guys have a good understanding of the fundamentals of the game as well as Allied strategy, you are probably going to have to forget about a dominant Axis victory and learn to settle for just a victory.
