Well I know y’all have had it tough this week wondering if dear old Dave was going to post round two or die of a terrible stress related disease in his new shitty overly stressful job but fear not people! here it is. Round two. 1914 is pretty good so far! click the link for all the info on how to get this golden ear shower.

Episode 67
Round 3 from A&A 1914
http://dicetruction.blogspot.ca/ -
Looking forward to it Dave. I can’t wait to see what hilarious antics the Huns have gotten themselves up to in this episode…
-
I am wondering how you have found the tanks in the game so far? I noticed from some of your twats (or is it tweets?) that there were some on the board. Have they been effective or a waste of money?
-
In the later rounds to CP have been using them effectively with large armies. We find going in with a couple tanks on 4 or five defenders you come out with almost no casualties. Every time a tank absorbs a hit its essentially paid for itself.

Episode 68
Round 4 means tanks folks, we found them to be a good purchase despite all the critics. Enjoy.

Hey Dave.
I finished my first full game of 1914 this past weekend with 2 buddies. It was a lot of fun. We finished the game in about 9.5 hours (one completely new player) and it ended with the Allies conceding defeat to the CP. It could have gone one for about 2 more hours I estimated but I couldn’t convince the Allies to play it out. We got to turn 7.
My thoughts:
I’m not sure why so many people on these forums are complaining that the allies have some huge slanted advantage? I can see a lot of parity in the game and believe both powers have the opportunity to win the game.
We decided not to use the optional Russian Revolution rule but the conditions would have been satisfied by the end of turn 5 (though there was quite a stack in Russia, 40+ men).
The game mechanics are great and provide opportunities for a lot of new strategies, very interesting.
Once again the production of the game is terrible! This game is not playable out of the box. We added chips (love those little coloured chips but do you think they could give us 2x as many please?), used some IPC’s from another set (actually the FMG supplemental cash, a rip off for $10 but it did the trick since Wizards of the Coast are too stupid to give us any), used a generic national production chart from Global (how do they expect us to manage 16 roundels on the stupid little chart in the Sahara desert??? WTF?? Really?). I also took some clippings from the inadequate rule book and made our own quick reference cards, which included things like the combat and movement values of the naval units. -
I agree with the production value for such a pricey game. We used the OOB Global scoreboard. We didn’t run out of chips yet but Infantry has been a problem. There’s a lot to like about this game but quite a few nuisances as well. We’re currently paused at round 10 I think and not sure when we can play again. My new work schedule is not very accommodating. Glad you like the game, we found that it could go either way but it’s hard to tell with one incomplete game under our belts.
-
It’s too bad your new schedule is not accomodatring. I was looking forward to being able to join you guys for a game day. Sounds liek you guys have a good thing going with the space and the company there.
-
It’s a pretty ghetto set up in a damp garage but we love it. We’ll be able to arrange something hopefully in the summer. Aside from the new job I’ve got some other shit going on that’s not making things easier to play but once things settle down here I’ll let you know.

Episode 69
Round 5 of 1914 action as Ray gets so drunk he just wants to go home thus speeding up gameplay and the episode is well under an hour.

Episode 70
We’re sober again, boo!
Check out the new episode here:

The blog also has some exciting news with links for game developers and players alike. The Boston Festival of Indie Games is coming up and they’ve asked me to notify you all about it. Check out the links at the blog and thanks for listening.

A sober episode? Does that equate to more turns? LOL. Looking forward to it. You guys are playing Anniversary? I’ve never played that one.
-
We tend to slow down when we’re sober. Anniversary is the best game. Drew the map myself.

Episode 71
Round 7 of A&A 1914, somehow the Russians came back into it.

What do you think about Global vs Anniversary?
-
Anniversary, hands down.
-
Really? Interesting. Just more playable and not as complicated as Global?
-
Global has a great deal of structure in the first few rounds, boring for USA and Russia for the first couple hours. It’s a great game but Anniversary is much better. Quite a few more options.
