• Double- checking a rule…one can put subs through the Gibraltar Strait but cannot put subs through the Danish Strait unless they control Denmark…true???  And no subs through the Turkish strait unless they control Turkey right???

  • TripleA

without ownership of both sides of the straight/canal from the beginning of your turn, you can not pass through straights/canals. the one exception to this rule is subs can pass through gibralter anytime.

This isn’t accurate. you don’t need both sides of a straight. Straights are not canals. Rulebook states it as you described questioneer. Have peace of mind in your playtesting.

  • Can russia move their navy out through the danish straight while they are not yet at war with germany?

One of my favorite nonsense rules, along with allowing the US player to put ships in SZ102 in the Atlantic where they serve no purpose that can’t be served by leaving them in SZ101.

Au contraire, carrier based fighter/tacs in z102 can contribute mightily to sinking a German transport fleet after a round 3 sealion if Eireland and Scotland are available as possible landing spots for the bombers.  If planes die in battle you can even  NCM the carrier(s) out Panama to the new naval base you will build there and over to Hawaii in a hurry.  AND you can do this stunt even if Japan doesn’t declare war til round 3.

That’s a lot of ifs there.  The scheme seems easily thwarted if the Germans stick to keeping their fleet in SZ111/112, or if they must go to 110, then make sure that Ireland & Scotland are nabbed as part of the plan.

  • well grabbing ireland and scotland gets in the way of sealion and would cause more casualties.  Germany would have to go to 109 or 110 to take UK at any reasonable time.

  • That’s right.  2 transports unloading to Scotland/Eireland is 4 ground units not unloading in London so it could kill sealion.  Another thing Germany could do instead is land everything int London but build a couple carriers out of Normandy to defend the fleet.  But the punchline then is if USA simply calls off the airstrike and lets Germany sit there with their pretty new carriers instead of infantry.  At that rate it may be round 6 or later before Germany is even beyond its original borders and into East Poland!

If you’ve already landed in Scotland G3, then you just need 1 guy to walk to Ireland G4 when you attack London.

  • sealion G4 is usually so much worse than in G3.

If assuming you meant that landing in scotland G2, then the brit might kill it, just to get your fleet, they might even put a mech in eireland, so you need to send an inf and an art to take each of them.

the  entire point of the rule is to drive up the cost of a sealion, without giving the allied a permanent advantage like more forces in london would do.

  • By the way, this sealion airstrike scenario is also the reason why Britain starts out with a mech.  It can go to Eireland and back to London in time for the invasion.
