I had to go out of town for Mother’s Day. You know how it goes.

Should have the Navy finished tomorrow or so.

Some people here still live with their mother.

Looking forward to seeing those naval units.

    @Viracocha:

Fantastic!  Really like your touches to the aircraft carriers!  Huh - wouldn’t have thought I’d like that shade of blue on the cats… but I actually like 'em a lot.

I tried the darker Navy blue first, but it was overpowering. I used it for the base of the roundels instead. If I ever get some Corsairs though, the dark blue will look great on them.

Got the number decals from your guy at I-94 Enterprises.

Hey Variable, Can you tell me how many decals came on each sheet from I-94? I have my Pac40 pieces done for the Japanese and I am STILL trying to figure out what to order.

If you feel really ambitious it would be awesome if you could tell me what part numbers you ordered (Some countries (like Japan) have several different decal kits they recommended and I am wondering what ones are the flags and what are the red dots, etc…)

    Thanks!

Sure. I bought LB-102 (Black letters) and LW-102 (White Letters). Each gives you about 4 sets of small letters/numbers and 4 sets of large letters/numbers. The numbers on the carriers are the “larger” size of the two that are included. “O” and “0” are the same if you need extra “0” decals.

Since it’s rude to hijack someone else’s thread, I’ve moved further discussion of my painting project to the following thread. It includes updated pics of the completed project, but I hope to take better pics with my wife’s camera next week. Thank you everyone for your kind comments.

Special thanks to AllWork - without his beautiful work here, I would have never known how to paint mine and never thought I could be capable of producing a product I’m happy with. Cheers mate!

What gives? I have been waiting patiently right up until this moment.

  • So I’ve noticed the inherent lack of anti-aircraft guns on this thread.
    Behold!

Even China and ANZAC have one

    Sorry about the image quality.
This is just an idea.  I borrowed the “roundels on the bottom” idea from your infantry allwork.  I don’t like to use the counters unless I have to, this just seems better.
Here’s hoping the images show up ok. ACK! THEY DON’T!

  • How about some close-ups?

Fantastic! I love the later war carriers… And your camo, as always, is awesome!

Thanks - it was ridiculously hard to match colors. WWII “Navy Blue” is not even remotely navy blue. Most all decks were stained a blue color. And the greys ranged from all kinds of shades depending on which site you looked at. I finally found a site with some good images of paint chips and matched it from that (though going with a lighter color because size naturally lightens a color).

While I had fun doing the brown wooden decks of the earlier ones, I did do the Essex(CV 9). I used a dark German grey for the deck since, like you said, it wasn’t very “navy blue”. I’m still conflicted over my color choice on the hellcats but I have some Corsairs on the way from Trumpeter. I will try out a darker blue on a few of those.

Like a fine wine Brain, you need to savor this a bit longer.

I am savoring it, but I am keeping my eye on the future. Okay you got me I am guzzling this 5h!+ down. Give me more, give me more…… I need a fix.

Usually when I start a new nation, I go through and do the cleaning/trimming part of the set all at one time so it’ll take a little extra time. But then again, the infantry are my favorite units to work on so I work a bit faster…

    …Does that help?
