Can the attacker choose to retreat his or her planes from combat to a territory at least 1 plane originated from even if it is more then 1 space away?  (Assuming enough movement is left.)

If so, what page is it on?

  • Aircraft retreat from battle differently than land units.

They stop fighting, and remain in the area of combat until NCM.

Then they cn land in ANY friendly territory that belonged to their side at the start of the round, within the limit of their range of movement.

So, if a FIG flew 2 spaces to a battle and “retreats”, the FIG can land in any friendly space up to 2 spaces away from the battle in NCM.

Do we have a page number for that?  I know it’s true, but I cannot find it in the manual anywhere.

  • If you ahve printed LHTR, it is at the bottom of Page 7 of 21.

It is in the section that describes “press attack or retreat”

    Here is the quote:

    Air Units:

When you designate that an air unit will retreat, return it to the game board battle site. It will retreat as a noncombat move when all other air units finish their moves in the noncombat move phase. Air units can retreat to any friendly territory within their total movement range. A fighter can retreat to a friendly aircraft carrier or to a friendly sea zone, as long as a carrier moves there this turn.

Your fighter may also end its noncombat move in a sea zone adjacent to an industrial complex you own if you have purchased an aircraft carrier that turn and will subsequently place that carrier in the sea zone where your fighter ends its turn.

If using the OM, it is on page 16 where it specifies that AF retreat differntly than land and sea units (they do not have to retreat together).  In the OM though, the retreat occurs as a second COMBAT movement, thus retreating AF get AA fir on their way to land.

This is for classic, not revised….you sure on that?

  • For Classic (sorry, I entered this post from the “unred posts” option not from the topic threads)…

The FIGs (and BOMs) go where the land units go… BACk one space.

Page 18 of the 2nd Ed manual is explicit and emphasizes “ALL” attacking units in all caps.
