• If an enemy attacks you in two, adjacent bodies of water and the first body of water to be attacked has a sub, can the sub retreat from the first body of water into the other body of water to help defend against the second attack? I saw this happen in the Axis & Allies computer game but I wasn’t sure if that was a legal move.

  • Even if the computer game let it happen you shouldn’t be able to. The battles are supposed to be happening at the same time so I think the sub should retreat and you decide where to after the combat phase is over.

  • C_F is correct. You may only retreat into a non-contested sea zone.

  • Yeah, CC is right. The rules state you can retreat to a sea zone that does not contain enemy units. Clearly if the battle has not been resolved then there are enemy units.

A point of interest is that the defender can retreat into the sea zone from which the attack was launched provided there is no other enemy units in it.
