Very helpful, thank you guys!
I think I’m going to order the John Keegan and Erwin Rommel books.
Thanks again!

Wow, didn’t pay attention to it, I just assumed you were quoting Moon Over Marin, sorry about that. I guess we’re the only ones that appreciate his unique sound.
-
hehe clearly.
I just bought “Vancouver” in light of you reminding me how awesome Matt Good is.
So far I dont like it as much as Hospital Music, but it hits home with a number of themes about the city.

The best tunes on that album are:
Last parade
The boy who could explode
Us remains impossible
Fought to fight it
Silent army in the trees
On nights like tonight -
I really liked silent army in the trees.
Reminded me of playing army men when I was a kid.
…And playing AA now that I am an adult.

My sister was an extra in his apparitions music video.
I loved that music video. It was my first time hearing any song by MG.
-
I was watching the video for “everything is automatic” way back in 95, and I was waiting for the credit to see you sang it, because I liked the song a lot. when the display read “The Matthew Good Band” I remember cringing at such an awful name for a band …… now he’s my favorite artist.
-
Yeah, there is a little back story about the name of the band. Apparently the band had always intended to go to a member-neutral name but hadn’t got around to it by the time Last of the Ghetto Astronauts caught on nationally. I remember hearing an interview where Matt said at that point “You don’t look a gift-horse in the mouth.” They stuck with the name and apparently the ensuing ego-battle between members is part of what contributed to the eventual break up.
Originality of the name aside. I think history has shown that the name wasn’t exactly misrepresentative of the driving force behind the group. The best thing any of the former members could do afterwards was when Dave Genn joined 54-40 to fill in for Phil Comparelli.
Also, I listened to silent army in the trees again. Heavy stuff….
-
considering who had all the talent in the group, ya…… it was the right name.

Just Bought my tickets to see Matthew Good at Massey Hall in Toronto November 1st… Awesome Artist, if you have the chance to see him this tour… you should.
He’s the best thing to come out of Vancouver since…

And what exactly are you listening to? Soft Jazz? and 90’s rap?
Maybe the Mario theme song on your Original NES?

And what’s normal…. Nickel Back?

Isn’t Nickel Back a Canadian band too? lol…

Oh ya… so they must be weird too even though they sell out to the masses.
…and then there’s that Justin Beiber guy, he’s really weird.
-
Don’t make me Beiber Bomb this thread. There are others here that barely survived the last time.

I was just joking, I haven’t even listened to his stuff. Just never heard of him.
Funny you should mention it…one of my favorite bands (The Advantage) only does NES cover songs.
In my 6 CD player in my car currently:
Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon
Ratatat - Classics
The Samuel Jackson 5 - Easily Misunderstood
Misfits - Greatest Hits
Parlour (Louisville band) - forget the album title
The Advantage - The AdvantageIsn’t Nickel Back a Canadian band too? lol…
Yup…You can keep them, and Celine Dion.

For the record Jerm,
Matthew Good is right up that socialistic, godless, pot smoking, liberalistic, and hopeless humanist point of view.
Which I suspect may appeal to you :) I honestly think you would considerably enjoy listening to Matthew Good.

Hey! I’m not hopeless… ;)
I gave it a shot, some stuff was ok. But he’s got a lot of singer/songwriter solo guitarist stuff that I just don’t dig. There’s something fundamentally wrong with songs missing drums/percussion, but to each their own.
How about Jim Guthrie? I like his stuff, and he’s a dirty Canuck.

(that song and all the others in the album were produced with just MTV Music Generator on PS1, but he also does the real thing)
