Hey Guys,
There are four sets currently in the “Design Stage”:
UK Supplement Set – This one is closest to being finalized
World War 1 French/Neutral set
World War 2 France Early War set – If you think about it, that’s all France really needs. France as a nation was only in the early part of the war. After that they were Occupied France.
World War 2 Japan Basic set – This set will include every piece that is used in the Global 1940 game so you can actually replace your OOB pieces with HBG pieces (or simply have more options if you like). After those, the rest has been just talk so far. However, I have seen sculpts for a USS Enterprise carrier, a Midway class carrier and an F-86 jet fighter that could be included in a possible US Expansion set.
Also, there has been definite talk of a second Axis Minors set that will have even more German equipment in it. Here are some of the ideas:
Panzer IV tank
Stuka dive bomber
A new Mechanized Infantry piece, possibly SdKfz 250 or SdKfz 7-1
Deutschland class Pocket Battleship
German infantryman in a long coat (winter dress?)Those are all I can remember at the moment. Also, I’m sure at some point they will be making another Russian set to cover later war equipment. Maybe even a set with some Russian Navy vessels. Even with these new expansion sets for the Global game, I’m sure they will keep making nation sets as well. Just from a business standpoint, they sell too dang good for them not to make them.

a SdKfz 7-1 would be awesome I was going to ask them if they thought about making mobile AA guns for all nations and a SdKfz 7-1 would be a good start. It’s good to hear that HBG stuff is selling well and they have no plans of stopping anytime soon.

Oh god I forgot about Xeno games pieces they made the classic pieces look good.
Another early expansion set for the original Milton Bradley A&A game was Enemy on the Horizon, made by a now-defunct company in (I believe) Nova Scotia. I have a couple of copies of this set, which provided three types of units: infantry (paratroops, as I recall), destroyers (large enough to be cruisers) and artillery (like the destroyers, rather large in size). The units were in the original five MB colours. The troop pieces were fairly decent, but the other two units didn’t have much in the way of detail.

I remember that one. the Infantry piece was Commandos. And the destroyers looked more like the transports from A&A14 to me.

Late war would kind of makes sense seeing as they used alot of american lend lease equipment in the late war but that can be handled by a wisely made American set also made in French blue. But whatever it takes to get my sad blue Russians off the game board.

Ha ha, tis sad for the men in blue, but whatever they produce, I’m sure it will workout. :-D

Every single time I set up France which is done last, I pull the pieces out and go to put the first tank on the board and go :-( oh yeah they’re Russians. So yeah being able to step back and look at the whole board and smile at how just awesomely cool it looks would be really kick ass. I hate blue Russians so much I’ve toyed with the idea of using the French units from A&A14.

Man. I’m so keen on these newly listed expansions for global…. Ideally I’d love it if stuff like winter war and battle for Africa came with small a3 ish maps so you could play just those fronts as aaa express.
I feel like as Spain,South America, Scandinavia, secret weapons, downfall and unthinkable bring us less historically accurate events we need action cards to bring that narrative flow…
A deck of say 100 cards and each side gets say 10 random ones split between the nations.
Cards could add something that just spawning troops and rushing them to the front doesn’t provide…
Subterfuge - move half the enemy forces In any one zone into an adjacent zone during your combat move.
Forced march - in your non combat all infantry can move an additional space for one turn
Pro neutral - when attacking a neutral nation using a force of equal or greater strength to its defenders they will declare as pro(axis or allies) and join your cause.
Code breakers - you may re adjust your forces In a defending zone with forces from adjacent zones…
So many more possibilities but you’d have a random bunch and they’d be one use only obviously… Would add a little to getting temporarily unexpected outcomes… Depending how and when they were used of course

Well, I guess nothing says you can’t. You can pretty much do what you want in your games. That is the fun of it. I’m personally mixing all my axis and allies games, so that I can use variation in pieces. I might use a hellcat and p51 mustang on the same carrier for the US. I also might use both the first and second edition Anzac pieces. I’m not going to limit myself.

I like your idea of the different fronts using specific maps. I’m not sure about the cards, but is an interesting concept. Battle Cry, the civil war is like that, but I guess I would have to see examples before I would add cards to axis and allies, but it sounds cool.

I always mix my A&A games been doing it since AAE came out. But I tend to put carrier planes on carriers. and as the game goes on Panzer IIIs are replaced with Panthers only to be replaced by Tigers later

I didn’t think about the planes. Your right some are not carrier planes. I’m glad you told me that. I always forget that. I need to study which planes are carrier and non carrier planes. Good call. :-)

I don’t play many games F2F the closest gaming group to where I live is a little over an hour away. So most of my games are me vs. me. I do Germany’s turn one day and Russia’s the next just to keep me objective. Games go on for months. So most of the stuff I do I don’t have anyone else to consider and it’s nice looking at the board and seeing by the pieces that are on it where about in the war I’m at.

Wow, I’m in the same boat, till I met Tall Paul, but he is still 2 hours away which makes it tough to get a game in, but most of the time. I do the same thing. I’m glad, I’m not the only one. 50th Anniversary Edition takes me at least a week to play, but Global I’m sure takes a lot longer by yourself. I’m just now learning the Global Game and when I get my man cave, I will have the game set up all the time, so I can resume it any time I want, but right now, I don’t have enough room to leave it one place for very long. My wife is not that patient, LOL. :-D

I do woodworking in the summer time from my basement. So any sanding can be done outside. Winter time hits I set up Global on my Tablesaw and I’m off and going. Most of the time I get 2-3 games in a year and it’s back to woodworking. I live in Central NY so winters are very cold so I need something to do that doesn’t involve going outside.

Well in the NE part of Texas I’m in gets extreme cold and hot. My man cave is going have to be well insulated with heating and cooling. It is going to cost me a pretty penny, but when it is all said and done it will be worth it. I hope within the next 5 years, I will have enough saved to build it. I hope to at least get 5 games a year, but we shall see.

I heard the people at HBG are play testing the first 5 expansions this weekend I’m hoping to see some pics of it soon. And I was reading the other day and I had forgotten about this but Spain did send troops to fight Russia in WW2 they were called Blue Divisions.

Yes, pics would be great. Well I didn’t know about Spain sending troops to Russia. That is interesting. Well I got to call it an evening. Take care.

Why not use a Stuart… or perhaps even a hellcat to replace that T-34?
Sure, still isn’t historically accurate, but certainly is better than France using Russian stuff.
