Jercules (Axis) vs. ??? (Moscow in 5–can it be done?)

I believe you’ve made an error early on.

How did Moscow get knocked down to 20@2 for round 2?

You opened with 19 hits which means Moscow should lost 5 aa, 1 strat, and 13 inf.

That means I should have had 24@2 for round 2

  • '17

Also, for that final round all those tactical bombers don’t get to fire at 4.  Only those paired with tanks and fighters can.

  • I was just going to post that… what should I do, reroll the whole thing? Your performance has been quite good despite my mistakes.

  • Well, I’ll finish this abortion of an attack (my apologies), and if the result is poor for you I’d be happy to reroll from scratch.

I am kinda confused, did you try and correct the mistake from round 2 by adding D rolls to round 3?

  • '17

Actually R2 was further off than I thought.

It should have been 28@2 for D

  • '17

I might end up losing Moscow anyways, but it’s unacceptable for 8 of my units to disappear for a round.

I would prefer it if you rolled my extra 8@2, then start fresh with a new round 3 (taking into account any extra hits from those 8 defenders).

    R1

    A 15 inf, 3 mech, 5 art, 19 tank, 2 fig, 6 tact, 5 strat (19 hits)
    D 5 aa, 1 strat, 33 inf, 4 art, 4 mech, 2 tank, 3 tact, 7 fig (18 hits)

    R2

    A 5 art, 19 tank, 2 fig, 6 tact, 5 strat (15 hits)
    D 20 inf, 4 art, 4 mech, 2 tank, 3 tact, 7 fig (14 hits + however many the 8 missed @2 rolls add up to)

  • Sure thing.

    DiceRolls: 8@2; Total Hits: 38@2: (5, 5, 4, 6, 4, 1, 1, 1)

  • So hits are now 15 vs. 17.

I’ve got us at 7 tanks (Germany) + other higher hitting units, 5 inf. (Russia) + higher hitting units.

I must now solemnly contemplate retreat.

(BTW, I had the count right for the next round because I was accurately deleting units from the map. For whatever reason I typed only 20 for Rd. 2, but still had the correct record going for Rd. 3, which had you at 13@2).

  • '17

The original round 3 defensive count was correct for the original round 3 roll, but the original round 3 attacking count gave you three extra rolls @3.

If you want to use the original roll, we’d need to have a fair way to randomly select 3 rolls @3 to disregard from the original round 3 attack roll.

  • '17

Though if we go down that path, fixing round 4 will get more complicated.

  • Screw it, it’s supposed to be Moscow in 5, right?

(I think you mean Rd. 4, when I had too few tanks to support my tacs? Rd.3, at worst, gives me 7 tanks).

    DiceRolls: 9@3 11@4; Total Hits: 99@3: (5, 2, 5, 6, 4, 1, 5, 4, 6)11@4: (6, 6, 6, 2, 6, 2, 2, 4, 3, 2, 3)
    DiceRolls: 13@2 5@3 7@4; Total Hits: 1413@2: (2, 5, 5, 2, 6, 2, 2, 1, 5, 6, 2, 3, 1)5@3: (6, 2, 5, 1, 1)7@4: (2, 6, 6, 2, 6, 2, 1)

  • Alright, nevermind, I concede.

I thought I could get a few cheap wins with that strategy, but you defended it so well. If you think your adjustments can overcome mine, accept another game, because I’ll do the same thing once more (G1 can be up tonight).

    Always a pleasure Wheatbeer.

  • '17

Honestly, I am very impressed by the strategy (most people on this forum just don’t get SBR).

I will give defending it another shot.  I had more luck when I really needed it than the Axis did, so I expect it to be harder this time.

You can post a new G1 in the same thread if you want.

  • '17

And I wouldn’t call it cheap, but definitely shakes out victory and defeat faster.  If those Far East men reach Russia with this strategy, then it’s most likely game over for the Axis.  Its crazy hard to defend London, Calcutta, and Cairo adequately.
