The most effective russian players I’ve encountered are the ones that are able to build up a force that is able to threaten a counter on a german stack. If a good german player wants to go for Moscow they are able to get it, however I’ve seen plenty games where the UK/USA are putting enough pressure on the German player for him to stop just in front of Moscow. If the Russian player only has bought inf at this point there is not much of a threat for the German player to keep russia contained and slowly kill it economically. However if there is a stack of paired inf/art the pushback power is a lot bigger and thus Germany can be challenged and Russia may be able to break the German wall.

I love this game because I am constantly learning something every game I play, lately I have been convinced that transports and land units to fill them is ideal for ANZAC.
Anzac transports are indeed quite useful now yes, you let USA clear the , ehh… road, and let Anzac take territories. And troops are much closer to the action compared to fresh americans.
Even putting an anzac inf on a US transport has good options now that USA plays before Anzac. In my last game i had USA destroy a jap blocker and move their TRP in non combat to (i think it was either) Java or Sumatra, to have the anzac unit take the (in this case) empty island.
I have also learned to keep America out of the war for as long as possible.
Are you talking from an american point of view or as Japan?
-
Speaking for Japan of course, if I’m America, I want in the war as soon as possible as it closes the axis economic window of opportunity sooner.
-
The worst thing Japan can do is to bring USA into the war before round 3.

Usually not an issue. Thing is, if you wait too long to strike India, you cannot strike India. Without India, personally, I don’t think you can win with Japan.

that’s what i thought, but you were talking about Allied stuff right before so i wasn’t entirely certain :)

I generally see J2 as the ideal balance between keeping USA calm and not letting India/Anzac get too comfy.

Keep in mind, unlike Japan, America’s authorized to park their fleet right next to SZ 6. (Japan cannot park next to SZ 10, it’s a violation of the rule that America has to be the most powerful entity in the game FOREVER and that any tactic that can kill America has to be banned IMMEDIATELY! And yes, this is a sore point for me, I like to see America burn in fire and rubble while raising the Japanese or German flag.)

You cannot block the fleet! They can coexist with your blocking unit and disengage to attack SZ 6. Keep it in mind!

well eh… i wasn’t claiming that i could…
This rises a question, can Japan, when declaring war, move out of a shared SZ to attack another one?
-
Yes they may.
-
Not only can they do so, but they may load transports in the newly hostile sea zone and conduct combat elsewhere.
-
I agree with you Jen, that capturing India is vital for Japan’s success, however, most Japan rookies are greedy and want the Phillipenes and the Dutch Islands on their way to India (not wise IMO).
There is one way to move closer to India without declaring war on the Pacific allies. If Japan attacks FI J1, they can stage their air units and transportable troops there without declaring war, however, Japan will not get their $10 trade NO.
-
The real issue, in my mind, is that 10 IPC NO for America in America where it cannot be sniped, it cannot even draw American forces away to go reclaim it like the Aleutians, Line Islands or New Britian for ANZAC. Without that NO the Japan vs America game becomes more balanced. At least, it’s 2 destroyers America is not building! (1 destoryer 8 IPC and you are still short 2 more IPC that you need for the second destroyer!)
Eh, for Delta, when we get to NOs, I’ll recommend splitting the American economy. You spend in the Atlantic what you got in the Atlantic and what you get in the Pacific in the Pacific. Then boost the NO from 10 to 15 with 10 Pacific and 5 Atlantic (Link the Atlantic one to W. Indies and Pacific one to Wake and Midway so they can both be sniped). The stuff from the Atlantic can still get to the Pacific, it just takes an extra round to get them into position - or two rounds if you are winning in the Pacific. To compensate, I’m giving you 5 more IPC a round, dude, what more could you ask for!
-
Splitting the American income is arguable, decreasing the income is unacceptable, the sleeping giant should remain a giant IMO.
Back to playing alpha+3 in the pacific, would you take FIC and sacrifice your $10 NO to move closer to India without declaring war?
-

How about splitting the income and giving them more. :P That is, what I offered ya know.
-
How about triggering some NOs later than others?

Anyone ever try upgrading to a major in western America? You could upgrade, and still buy two AC. Then on A2 build 2crz 2sub and another AC. Or split the 52 up any way you like on A2. Or save the remainder giving you 84 ipcs on A2. You could build 10 nice units on two?
IMO attacking J2 can get pretty bad for Japan. Even more so if you are expecting it. UK and Anzac can declare war on R1 and get the NO bonus. They can also set up blocks to stop Japan from attacking until 4. Giving America more time to get wher they need to be. America can have a fleet sitting right on Japan’s doorstep with alot of fire power.

Are you serious?

If you want to go that route, get a minor in Mexico and you can build 6 units in SZ 10 a round for rounds 2-4. Cheaper than an upgrade to major complex!
-
I’m not saying that I have done this or plan too. Or even if that is a good idea lol. It was just a question if anyone has ever done so.
