• $240 for the complete set of eight nations… well, unless I’m renting them back to players for the duration of the game, this is dead in the water from my perspective… even with the nation-a-year instalment plan.

Dude if you  cant save 240$in a period of lets say 18 months, you must be doing something wrong. Ill probably buy 3 sets, and Im not a milllionare or anything close, Ill just wont go out one time a month. Have you seen Michigan toys prices? They sell 60 inf pieces for 21.99 or r 30 for about 12-14. At 30 each set with all the extras is still a great deal. Personally i wont buy for the inf sculpts, but all the other one that cant find in such detail.

    I’m sorry dude. Did I say I couldn’t save $240?
However IMTO surveying my various vices, I can think of numerous other things that that very same $240 can be spent on that will - pound for pound - provide more pleasure than replacing bland albeit serviceable OOB game components.

Affordability of any commodity is, after all, a matter of answering “what am I getting for my dollar”.

In this case, I don’t get enough game time to justify paying more for slick components than the complete ugly games cost.
    Pity, I know.

  • @Brain:

Also imagine if I wanted to create a game to sell and I wanted to use FMG pieces. By the time I bought all 8 nations and the accesory pieces I would have to sell that game for over $300. I don’t think I would find many takers.

If you were creating a game to sell you would enter into a negotiated agreement to purchase a minimum quantity of pieces (say, 100 sets) at a discounted price, just as any other company would do.  Nobody who is creating something to sell in any quantity pays full retail price.

Of course, debating price is a moot point to be honest at this point.  FMG will sell for what FMG has calculated they must sell at in order to get on to the next set as quickly as possible.  Will it be $30 per set for every set?  Or will the price drop slowly as each set is produced (For example, after selling Italy sets they will know how many sets will sell at that price in x amount of time and can adjust the Germany pricing accordingly to say $25 … and then the next set at $23, and on and on until all 8 nations are out and available at some averaged out price)?

  • @Yoper:

I am sorry that this might make the majority mad, but I don’t see how FMG can make these sets for anything under $40 a set.  More like $50.

Once you put together how many pieces that will come in each set and the fact that this is being done in relatively small batches, I can’t see anything like what you are all clamoring for.

    So $50 for 171 pieces….

    26 Infantry
    12 Artillery
    12 Armour
    12 Fighters
    9 Bombers
    12 Submarines
    12 Destroyers
    9 Cruisers
    6 Battleships
    6 Aircraft Carriers
    12 Transports
    6 Bunkers / Pill Boxes
    3 Commander Units
    12 Half tracks
    12 Trucks
3 Task Force Markers (Like Pacific)
    3 ********* Special Surprise

Which gives us $400 total… hmmm best of luck FMG but I fold.

To be fair, that list isn’t near correct.  You’re not including Tac Bombers or Air Transports/Med Bombers or the fact that the armour includes 2 types (hopefully not 6 each, cause then we have AAP40 all over again with the freaking Tacs).

Also, bunkers/pill boxes and task force markers truly don’t need to be nation specific and I would hope FMG doesn’t delay, or add cost to the italian set by including those at this point, especially as he’s indicated plans to mold major/minor factories, air bases, naval bases, and AA guns to replace the cardboard and I’m not including the special surprise, because whatever the surprise is, it’s probably not what we’re paying for.  In addition, the original plan was not 8 nations, but 6 - the project was for AA50, not AA1940 global.  We’ll most likely see AA50 completed before they move onto ANZAC & China (and china might very well be a much smaller set of units).  So “only” a $300 investment ;) plus another $30ish for the factories, bases, markers, etc.

So, a list revision of possibly:

    26 Infantry
    12 Artillery
    12 Armor #1
    12 Armor #2
    12 Fighters
    12 Tac Bombers
    9 Bombers
    9 Air Transports/Med Bombers
    12 Submarines
    12 Destroyers
    9 Cruisers
    6 Battleships
    6 Aircraft Carriers
    12 Transports
    3 Commander Units
    12 Half tracks
    12 Trucks

For a total of 188.  But at $50 for Italy, that’s over 26 cents per piece, and that also puts it beyond my budget for a game I haven’t played in 8 months because the only friend of mine who enjoyed the game moved to the east coast, so I feel your pain.

  • @kcdzim:

    so I feel your pain.

    Precisely.
We may need a support group.

And thanks for the revisions. I got lost in that monsterous thread looking for the latest list.

FMGs not saying $50 a set. They’re saying $30. I initially thought $20 would be good and I think it will be once everything is done. But after reviewing the list again, $30 right now sounds pretty good. I’m in!

  • @Rorschach:

    @timerover51:

From the proceeding post, I take it that the project is a ways from completion, even for one nation?

Italy is near completion.  The rest can’t really go forward until Italy starts to sell.

Hmm, if they are depending on sales of the new units for Italy to keep the project going, they are going to have a long wait.  I cannot see that a lot of guys are going to pay on the order of $50 for different Italian sculpts.  Even $30 is a bit much.

No, FMG did not say $50 but no one said they did.  It was speculation on Yoper’s part and a list and per piece cost on mine.  It’s ALL speculation until FMG sets a price.

However, first runs cost more.  Such is the nature of early adopters (like those who dropped that first load of cash on the iphone).  If FMG is using Italy to fund Germany and so on, they probably won’t be $20 a nation set until all of them have been molded.  Again, speculation.

  • FMG,

Why not just let people order “complete sets” by paying money up front {like say ~$65+S&H($10 for 3 separate shipments)= ~$75 total for the first 3 country sets or ~$120+S&H($20 for 6 separate shipments)= ~$140 total for the “complete” 6-country set.}  Then when the sets are released, then just ship them right out to the folks who already paid for them.

If you can put it on the line for we, your customers, then let us put it on the line for you.  You would just have to keep the records of who ordered what.  In this way, those folks who want to purchase complete sets and/or multiple sets can invest their money into this project.  (I suppose that you could even have a disclaimer that if for some reason, the “complete” 6-country set could be finished, then the folks could still get a total of 6 sets of individual nation pieces of their choice of the nations you were able to release before stopping the project (not that I think that you would cancel the project).

If you could do the above, “order complete sets before they’re even made” situation, then if it’s possible, then maybe you could for the start-up go with a ~$24.99+S&H($5.00)= ~$29.99 total price point for Italy.  Thereby letting those who are ordering the “complete set” receive a discount on the total product.

yeah I was wondering about that… kicking it off with the Germans or US probably would’ve generated more sales I’d think.

The issue is we started from scratch on this project and it was a slow process getting started.  We first began to contemplate this to replace AA50 parts so we started with ITALY.  Now that this is actually getting off the ground I agree that GERMANY would have been the first choice.  That is why we bumped GERMANY up on the schedule and it will be the next release after ITALY

  • It is regretable that we are debating the price openly.

I hope Jeremy makes loads of money on this project, and is able to fund many more.

The pieces appear to be a very high quality and some of us are willing to pay for that.  There are quite many in the set and some of us are willing to pay for that too.  There is also a great variety of pieces, not even required to play the game, and some are willing to pay for that.

On the other hand, some are looking at a $75 dollar game (~$150 if you combine the two) and thinking “How much will I pay to ‘trick out’ my game?”  There are going to be a lot of folks with a hard ceiling around $100 total I believe.  Unfortunately some of the demands for a piece to do this or that drove the cost up, and some folks fell off the bottom end when that happened.  For example, we don’t need two tanks per nation, or a transport plane.  But providing those pieces created a cost that has to be absorbed.  Now the whole set has to cost more unless FMG comes up with a plan to offer “basic” sets with infantry, one tank, one arty piece, three planes, and one of each ship.  For my part, I would love to be able to consider buying some a-la-cart.  I may be able to afford all the high quality ships and selected other pieces, for example.

Enterpreneurship is all about figuring out this delicate balance.  I want to wish Jeremy the best of luck.  Whether I buy a set, or five or even none, he is providing the community a service we didn’t have before.  Thanks.

  • I’m doing the same thing. I will probably buy the standard 6 sets each

  • @Yoper:

    @dinosaur:

There is no good way to do this without being stuck with a bunch of incomplete sets.  You would be stripping specific pieces out of full sets.  FMG would end up with bins full of transports, etc. because people only wanted new cruisers.

The only way this whole process is done within a reasonable cost structure is for fulls sets to be molded in large batches.  And them sold as complete sets.

Understand that I do like the notion, but I know that it is not a feasible way to do things.

I think by ala cart, he actually meant only fmg figs that directly replace existing ones, thus eliminating the air transport/medium bombers, one armor type, one infantry type, commanders, trucks, bunkers, etc.  Each nation could have a core set (ala cart), and a tech expansion set.  Which actually might have been a better way to go from the start, as fewer molds could have reduced initial cost, allowing to fund the next core set and expansions down the line.  And considering the size of what china will need per game rules (not crazy go nuts house rules), china would basically only be an expansion itself.

Moot point now.  Too much has been invested in the alternate molds.  It pretty much has to be a expanded set.

We wanted to do this once, and do it right!  So nothing was left out.  We added new units so the product would offer “more” than just a replacement for your stock units.

We have no regrets at this point.  The product will speak for itself once you see it.

  • '12

3 sets for me at least, dont really care about the price. Cant wait to start painting them

  • for god’s sake. please put a pre order option on ur website. then we can help out with ur financing of this great product. and for all those ppl who are complaining about the price. wait until you see te final price. stop nagging. a deluxe version always costs more. thats how everything works. and no, im no millionaire. im just a poor student.
