Thank you! I just wanted to let you know of my progress. I certainly tried to do all of that in earlier games, but for one reason or another, it didn’t work well enough to net an Axis win.
The Hitler Options
-
soloution!
limit russia’s ammount of noncombat moves allowed per turn when not at war
OR
….let germany set up/re arrange some ammount of russian units before germany attacks
Hey! Japan gets kamakazes! Germany deserves some neat-o rule
-
If Germany were to get a neat rule, it would be subs or uber blitzkrieg.
-
Solution. Limit Russia’s income until they are attacked.
-
Another consideration here is the deployment of Soviet units….
And thus the thread becomes “Stalin Options”
So how much ahistorical deadzoning should be permitted?
Should the rules - like an eagle-eyed kommissar - prevent you from NCM’ing away from the enemy? -
thats actuallly a REALLY good idea the whole limiting russias income thing
-

I think it is the only solution.

Or, for added realism, you could just start the game half an hour before the Russian player arrives.

LOL. Great! “…I think we saved some of your IPCs for the last two turns around here somewhere, didn’t read the rules about Russia yet though, we weren’t sure to give you peacetime or wartime footing income or not… Anyway, don’t worry about it, we’re halfway to Smolensk already…”
-
Or make the Baltic States an independent pro-Axis country to begin with.
These (I assume they’ll be one combined territory) were not annexed to the USSR until August 1940 after an invasion in late June that year (after Dunkirk).

Also denude the far East of Soviet units, so they have to send forces east to ward off Japanese designs on Siberia.
-
errr Flash, shouldnt most of the soviet army be in the east? After all the border skrimishes with the Japanese the Soviets were stacked pretty deep over there.
It was stalin’s decision to pull the siberian divisions back to moscow and turn the tide when the germans were 40 miles from moscow.
I think it’d be more effective to put a strong force in the east, but not let the soviets use it against japan, have them drag it back to moscow….arriving just in time, if you play your cards right

That sounds good as well.

I think the mechanic would simple be japan can DOW on Russia anytime, but Russia must wait until either Germany is eliminated (like in our History) OR until Germany occupies UK (assume Stalin wanted to wait untilel UK and Germany had weakend each other)

I dunno… I’m thinking if Sea Lion is a success, Uncle Joe would be looking West more than adventuring toward Japan.
-
When I play Japan, I attack Russia with a majority of my force.
-
Japan should have to pay upkeep for units in non-coastal Russian territories. The reason they went to war with the allies was to seize BADLY needed oil resources.
-
This is why resources should be reflected in the game.
-
It kind of is if you think about it. If Japan hits Russia then it will slow down its expansion in the Pacific, meaning that it won’t get it’s NOs and the USA will roll right over Japan.
-

Bah! There’s oil in Siberia! Not that Japan would have had the means or know-how to extract it at this time period, but there were at least SOME things of value in the Siberian tundra. Vladivostock was Russia’s only major port on the Pacific Ocean, and it was connected to the Trans-Siberian Railway. A lot of American Lend-Lease aid came through the port during the war. It’d be nifty to have its capture cut off one of Russia’s NOs once Japan seized it. But yeah, the Dutch East Indies were viewed as Japan’s last hope for keeping her war machine going, and the other Allied powers wanted them as well. NOs and other incentives should keep the game somewhat historically accurate.
Just have the IPC values of these Soviet territories reduced to zero; you’re welcome to the land if you want it, but most likely just wasting your time and resources invading it. Better to go through China first and kill two birds with one stone. Opening up yet ANOTHER front with Japan seems suicidal enough as is, guess it’s just necessary for end-game purposes.

There really should be a USA - USSR convoy in the Barents for Global. This is an example of how things are inevitably left out when you bodge the two games together rather than produce a custom Global map.
OR will WOTC produce a stick-on convoy box packaged with Europe for use in the Global game?
Will there be other components for Global not used in either Theatre game, but which are needed for the combined game to work; like (presumably) set-up charts?

And now we get stickers! Not a bad idea, we shall see.
