I think Japan still would have invaded the Soviet Union though, if the Second Sino-Japanese War continued (the oil embargo only really happened once they invaded Indochina).
Other than that I agree with you. That would be curious alternate reality.
You are in command of the following armoured vehicles:
Stug 3
Marder 3
Tiger 2
Panther
Panzer 3 (Ausf J, early anti-tank version)
Maus (hypothetical production version, this scenario is fanciful anyway)
Elefant
Nashorn
Panzer 4 (Ausf F2, post-1941 long anti tank gun version)
Your command tank is the Maus.
You have to destroy a single modern British main battle tank, the Challenger 2.
Terrain is flat land, pure tank country. No outside support allowed. Crews are equal. No mechanical breakdowns.
As the commander of German forces, how will you defeat this British tank?
@superbattleshipyamato what distance would they start at?
Out of the gun range of both sides. Endurance is not a factor.
the German tanks simply can not! the challenger 2’s shooting range is far superior - allowing it to simply avoid the German tanks and just pick them off one by one! LOL
So no creative ideas? It’s impossible? :( Oh well.
@superbattleshipyamato Best bet, German personnel get out of vehicles, dig a huge hole and fill with water and hope the modern tanks falls in.
Could a WW2 German 128mm round do anything to a modern tank?
I think from the sides and back it’s possible. It just isn’t possible to armour those parts well enough against modern technology without it being too slow. So they just gave up in hope that with less armour a tank has superior mobility and can destroy the enemy before such a situation happens.
I heard that good tankers never expose the sides or back, and if that happens you deserve to lose.
