• @mateooo:

so that brings up the next question
can a sniper shoot from a halftrack (head shot) and then the half track move away the same turn…

i think vague, simplistic rules are being taken advantage of…

A unit can only use the fighting platform if that vehicle does not move during assault phase.
If unit attacks that vehicle with fighting platform must stay put.

No.  “Fighting Platform” states that the vehicle cannot move if the unit aboard attacks.

I think there aren’t as many big holes in the rules as it might seems.  Of course, the fun is taking advantage of the small ones

  • I’ll agree will some of the holes.

Cossack Captain on the KV1 is a cheap tactic.  While mounted on or in vehicles the Blast ability can kill.

I think snipers should be able to target infantry on tanks with transport abilities but not in transports vehicles.  I think these two things should be treated differently

  • Well I must say I have to 100% agree with you here on that. :x

  • Why would opposing infantry be afraid of a cossack captain that they can’t even see if he is riding “inside” a tank.
If he is riding outside the tank then it would make sense for intimidation to take affect.  And since Cossack would be riding outside of tank he should be subject to enemy fire.  HHR house rules states alot of these units as having exposed transport not transport ability.  We should take a vote and get rid of this cheesy tactic.  Also as far as the Brumbaar; Brumbaars blast should work on units on exposed transports not on transports.

  • 2007 AAR League

i would think coming up with different designations for transports would be great
    exposed
    unexposed

unexposed does not allow the transported unit to be targeted, but does not allow the use of abilities (intimidation, pinpointing, whatever)

exposed allows targetting, but then abilities could be used.

  • exactly
like a cossack capt in a half-track or something
not sitting on the back of some beast tank.

  • 2007 AAR League

for purposes of LOS, is a unit with no turret able to target something directly to its side? (not in front, or behind).

My thought is not, as when you attack a unit from the side, you are targetting its rear, implying that something to the side is considered “behind” that unit, but who knows with AAM.

    anyone know?

  • Your thought is correct.  No turret means you cannot target directly to the side.

  • Hi, I am new here, so escuse me for this question: does all miniatures (North Africa, Contested Skies, 1939-1945, and so on) have the same scale? I am asking this because a friend of mine says he has 2 Stug vehicles with the same card, but different sizes, one is aprox. 20% smaller than the other…  :|

  • '19 Moderator

In the first 5 sets the scale was fairly random, in the last two sets they have standardized the scale and rereleased some of the older units in a standard scale.  So, yeah your friend probably has two tanks that are different scale… Gay huh

  • I see… thank you for your answer. I am curios now when I receive my North Africa and Eastern Front cases which… differences will be in scale… kills all the anticipation this unknown fact for me.

  • So, if you are new to the game.  A big welcome.  There are lots of us out there that like this game.  Unfortuanately the Wizards didn’t get the scale right from the beginning and they are now ensuring the scale is consistent.

Infantry from the old sets are fine but vehicles were all over the map.  If you’re new, I’d just collect the 39-45 set and the north africa set.  You’ll get enough pieces.  You may find some of the old ones appropriate in which case you can trade to get them or purchase particular ones on EBay.

    Audacity

  • Consider yourself lucky you joined late.  Alot of if shelled out the bucks from the beginning, only to find we have to re-purchase the same units in the new scale.

Dont get me wrong, its a fun game and even with different sizes its not too bad unless you play BOTH sizes of a unit within the same game.  (Meaning, playing the small and large stugs at the same tiem).  But I’m anal, you may not mind at all.  There are a LOT of really great units in the first 1 thru 5 sets and it’ll be years (if ever for some) before the re-release them all.  Plus soldiers and aircraft are the same through all sets.

I vacilate between continuing collection, sitting tight with what I’ve got, and selling the whole lot.  Its frustrating.  Personally even though I’m still collecting and trying to get the odd unit I need to complete all the sets, If I got a fair offer on the whole collection I’d consider it.  WotC really stuck it to us early-adopters.

    what’s the missing unit(s)

  • P38 and one of the the Crusaeder from Set I.  I may not have all the units from 39-45 but they were all repeats so I have them from their previous apperances.  I collect to be able to play 100 pt games.  So I wont have 2 Tigers because they are over 50 pts, but I will have 2 T-34’s because you would commonly have builds where you would want two.  Its a players collection :)  But I still want at least one of each.

  • Thank you all for answering my questions and giving me some feedback.

I am a fan, if we can put it like this, of ww2 strategy games, table or computer based :) (DAK and 7th Panzer “Ghost Division” - France 39)

I have some 20 units in this moment, purchased in my country at a store (as booster packs 39-45), but I am expecting my North Africa case which should arrive from USA… hopefully.

Another question for you all “veteran players”: I made a map… quite huge. I had topographical aerial photos of my town (Google Earth type), put them together, then in AutoCAD made the array of hexes, turned out quite cool I would say, after I plotted it. Did someone try a thing like this and with what result? (I am yet to play on it).

    That sound fantastic, great job!

Did you modify it to create distinct hex-sized ares of any particular terrain?  Would you mind posting the file for us to look at?
