Convoy question G1 Southern France
If I take Southern France on G1 but do not attack the French ships in 93, do those ships convoy disrupt in the collect income phase of G1? Thanks

RE: SBR to assist Barbarossa
I think it would be a great strat. Only problem seems to be reach. Even with an airbase in Rom or Pol., SBs can’t fly back and forth to Moscow and you can’t take any accompanying fgts. You can reach Moscow from East Pol, as you suggest, but suppose you attack on G2, you can only land planes there on G3, and use them for attack on G4. Could be too late

RE: Submarine sneak attack
In the 1 sub vs. carrier w/ planes scenario:
If the sub hits on two consecutive rounds (and the carrier misses) what happens to the planes? Can they move 4 spaces to land on the attacker’s turn? Do they have to wait for their own turn and then move 4 spaces?

RE: My Allied Strategy for UK & US
How do you defend a J2 attack? It seems with your fleet split between Hawaii and Queensland JPN could easily crush 1 of the 2 US fleets, assuming the JPNese fleet was based in the Carolines
And I might be missing something, but why leave a juicy target of 3 bombers undefended on Wake, Guam or Johnston? JPN would probably risk a lot to destroy those, if in range (in my experience, they usually are, with aircraft)

RE: How to play Japan!?
I prioritize my TT builds over mainland builds on J1 and J2. Usually build 3 TT J1 and 4 TT on J2. With those TTs you can take 2 of the DEI on J2 and take Philippines. Plus you have follow up to take the other 2 DEI on J3 AND threaten to take Malaya, Hawaii or Sydney (and, if you build a Hainan NB on J3, India) on J4 with you 4 new TTs. No need to build land units because there is enough stuff on JPN / Korea / Manchuria to load the TTs with.
Meanwhile I can hold out on the mainland by taking a few territories J1 (incl Yunnan), take out Kwangtung on J2 and for the rest be defensive. On J3 I then buy 2 ICs (kwangtung and one other place north of that, forgot the name) and start up production there. The rest of the game is buy stuff on the mainland, build new ICs (FIC, Malaya) and buy cheap naval units to block the progress of the ANZAC and US fleets in every possible way. And when they get to greedy or to far from home, kill them off with planes and a few DDs.

RE: Japanese Strategy with Alpha 3
I attacked Amur with JPN this weekend to test the new rule. Interesting side effect was that it was hard for the Russian infs to block the progress of my troops because I could now also go through Mongolia, maybe clearing 1 or 2 converted Mongolian inf in the process, and thus circumvent the Russian infs, block them from both sides so that they were forced to attack me.
I think the new rule might actually be in JPNs favour

RE: Japanese Strategy with Alpha 3
Okay, I didn’t think you would commit your entire northern JPNese force to the Russian cause… As a “solid Russian player”, I would be very pleased with myself having diverted a large chunk of your attacking units for 4-6 rounds by using my delaying tactics
Also, I would use the Mongolian forces to take Manchuria, Chinese territories and perhaps more, as those will have been left empty by your attacking force -
RE: Japanese Strategy with Alpha 3
How do you “take the Russians out” on G1? No solid Russian player will stack his inf in Amur. Now with the new rules, if you take Amur you gain only 1 IPC, but still have to deal with 24 inf spread out in Buryatia, Sakha, Siberia, Mongolia etc. Those infs can walk into China, Jehol, Manchuria now that the borders are open. I think attacking Russia G1 is a mistake.

RE: Alpha +3 = UK1 Factory in EGY breaks the game?
true i guess, but that argumentation is kinda the same as saying that getting 8 victory cities deals with the Egyptian IC, because if the game is over, they cant use the complex anymore
and i’ve invaded Turkey once and it was a disaster.
-
RE: Alpha +3 = UK1 Factory in EGY breaks the game?
Invading Turkey (!) or doing a Sealion does not deal with the Egypt IC either.
I don’t think building a Yugoslavia factory is a particularly good idea, but at least then you can build TTs and troops to invade Egypt with
I think that if you as Italy have naval control of the Med and some planes in range to shoot off any transports in the Red Sea shuttling troops from S-AF, you will eventually always take Egypt and any IC built there would be a waste of money and resources. German ships built in S-France could help with this.

RE: The Arctic Anti-Sealion Approach
Good idea with the bombers, hadn’t thought of that yet! and you only have to buy them R3 so you can have 2 normal turns of purchases, with only saving 11 IPC. And easier than Spain as a landing spot….Northern Ireland!
-
RE: Largest single turn IPC Increase?
I very much agree. Exactly the setup that would lure JPN into killing those two ANZAC fighters at the cost of all the ground troops they have in the area. If their transports survive, it’ll take them 2 or 3 turns to get back to an IC to load new troops

The Arctic Anti-Sealion Approach
Note: I haven’t tried this yet, but I have a game tomorrow where, if the opportunity presents itself, I will. Do you think it will succeed?
So suppose you are Russia, Germany has built the usual AC and transports on G1, and on R1, you save 19 IPC and buy whatever you want for the rest. Then, if and only if Germany drops 10 transports for Sea-Lion on G2, you on R2 build 2 BB and 1 AC in the Arctic, Z127. Meanwhile UK is delaying Sea-Lion with the usual moves & buys, but a G4 invasion is inevitable.
On R3 you move your fleet (2BB, 1 loaded AC, 1 sub) to 111, 112, 124 or 125, whatever zone is free. Meanwhile the Baltic fleet moves to Z114 as a blocker for a turnaround invasion of Novgorod.
Would Germany then still go through with Sea-Lion on G4? I think they will, they invested so much in it.
If they don’t, you win. If they do, you blow their transport fleet out of the water with the Arctic Russki’s. BOOM! -
RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?
Dunno…you would then have only 52IPC to spend on a new fleet, which the Japs could destroy again in the next round. Sure this works?
-
RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?
What is the strong position you mention for the US fleet if the Japs gather their fleet at the Carolines? Hawaii with blockers in SZ30 and 31?
-
RE: Win, lose…draw?
That’s a pretty lame rule. I guess the fact that losing sucks so much proves how good this game is
-
RE: Operation Hollywood : Flying the Japanese Air Force off the coast of Gilbraltar
I think it states that the JPN planes are landed on the German carriers not Gibraltar
Nice plan by the way, and as a side note, if the US proves too strong you can sail on to the UK and do a a sea lion with the JPNese…

RE: Russia collect money question RE: Manchuria?
Piet Hein,
If the Russian players leaves his inf on the coast for Japan to attack, then Japan should kill all those infantry. I’ve seen Russian players move their 18 Inf to the coast, in hopes of taking Korea and Manchuria. Will all that Japan can get there, they destroy the Russian infantry on Turn 1 and just start moving west unimpeded. Not good for the Russians. Then, they focus their efforts on the UK/Anzac and China and it’s not good for the Allies.
I know, I’ve seen that happen. I usually spread them out on R1 over 3 territories, say Sakha, Buryatia and Amur, and fly 2 planes over to Yakutsk. If the Japs see what I’m doing and reinforce - I do nothing and fly the planes back. If they don’t realise the threat and start moving all their land units out of range, which they often do cause they need them badly in China, and sail south with their fleet, I move the whole bunch in R2 to Amur and if he has even left Manchuria relatively open, because he didnt think you’d risk it with the 10 IPC bonus and all, you can already attack that with the 6 guys in Amur and the 2 planes, that can land in AMur as well.
Now he starts getting annoyed, having to pull troops back that are hopelessly out of range, and if you’re lucky, you can take Korea on G3 with 18 inf and an AA, and the only thing he has in range are planes, which he does not want to lose against your inf and AA, so he waits a turn to gather some meat from Japan, and then you surprise him again with landing planes there from Kwangtung (may have already been captured though) in addition to you Russian planes. If not possible, you can move some US/Anzac planes to Hawaii/Wake on ANZ3 when the US is already at war and they can reach it on US/AZ4
Now its starting to become a problem, Japan’s logistics are getting screwed up, you build an IC and so on
I’m not saying this is a must-use strategy it’s got a whole lot of IFs and if one of those assumptions is incorrect, dont do it. Still, if it works, could be a gamechanger

RE: Axis Strategy against 100% US Pacific Strategy in Alpha.+2
No need to do a sea lion, I would just focus on Russia with Germany and attack on G2 and focus on taking Cairo with Italy
You could be in Moscow on G6 and it could all be over on G7 if Germany is played well and has focused 100% of its buys on the eastern front
