RE: Today in history: April 25
Today, here in Italy, it’s the “Liberation Day”. It’s the anniversary of the general partisan insurreption against German invaders and the end of the Liberation War (here called “Resistenza”, resistance), 25th April 1945.

Today, here in Italy, political discussions and polemics caused by the memory of this civil war are not exhausted.
Excuse for my bad english, I think I made some error but I don’t know exactly… :roll:
Would you like it fixed?

RE: UK: Hold Africa with NAs
You forgot three:
“Lucky British”
Reroll any dice battle entirely to your favor.
It makes holding Egypt much easier.
In seriousness, the analysis seems sound. This is assuming no bid, though?

RE: Eastern Front
I would say, as a general rule, trading as far from your capital with Russia is a good idea.

RE: What odds battle would you take to win the game?
@ncscswitch:
Thanks for rubbing it in :-P
Its karma for the AA guns in our tournament game…

RE: What odds battle would you take to win the game?
75% at least. I wouldn’t risk units unnecessarily if I was already in control of the game.

RE: Eliminating a country, max ipc?
Which means you would have to consider if the 22 IPC loss to the Axis was worth it.

RE: Excellent First Turn Options for UK
@Francis:
Bunnies P Wrath….
I love how you assume someone is an idiot for having different ideas than you. You assume that Japan and Germany will just automatically move units to certain areas, or build factories in certain places. You also are unable to factor in the part of the game in which you as a human measure the abilities and personalities of your opponents to aid in your decision making process. This article was to simpy offer some ideas on how to make India a more viable option to build an IC. Throwing down a large force filled with fighters into India on turn 1 is a huge deterrent to Japan, who could easily gain more income with less loss by attacking elsewhere. Overall I would have to say your strategies are weak, and you have zero social skills. I have tried to be polite, but you really are pathetic. This forum has a great potential for us to share ideas in a polite way to further our expertise at a similar hobby. When people like you are incapable of offering constructive criticism tactfully, it really lowers the value of this forum.
Ouch.

RE: Excellent First Turn Options for UK
What you need to do to not make the game fail in that manner is make it so each raid can only inflict the max value of the territory. Instead of bombing Germany to nothing with six heavy bombers, he can kill 16 IPCs max a turn. The rulebook is not what you should be consulting in this case, as it is wrong.

RE: Excellent First Turn Options for UK
You do it in Europe, through Norway.

RE: Excellent First Turn Options for UK
This is under the assumption Germany did not attack Egypt on the first round?
One fix I can see: Since any attack on the German fleet in the Baltic would require moving into the Baltic, your fighter’s first leg landing zone would have to be Archangel, West Russia, or Ukraine.

RE: Free For All Game Strategy Recommendations
Don’t “alliances” or agreements sort of negate the purpose of a free for all game?
-
RE: Quick Battle Question
Yes, since both shoot in the opening phase of combat.

RE: Request for simple development for Triplea
Austria would be slaughtered in a Great War FFA.

RE: Q about AA guns
Anything over what we have now is nice, no matter how small. However, just make sure to differentiate (i.e. have two levels) between the fixed AI and the standard one now, since it is perfect for beginners.

RE: Question regarding Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
@Bunnies:
My experience says higher prices not always means higher quality. Remember what Games Workshop does… sure, they’re not AH, but you can get the idea. And I love burnt orange japaneses and limey british :lol:
I prefer they stay in the 60-70 $ and hope they traslate the price in euros right (euro cost more than US dolar, but lately the companies are pricing 60$=60€ :-P)
In my experience, Games Workshop plastic models are easier to work with than pewter models, and although a fair number of the plastic sculpts (pewter too) are of questionable quality, some are quite good. Also, Games Workshop has excellent customer service in the United States as of my last experiences.
However, I have to admit my opinion is also that Games Workshop has absolute garbage for organization as far as writing rulebooks goes, and that their approach to independent retailers and trade sales in the United States requires a lot of improvement.
^^
As far as the Avalon Hill game goes, I find that it is already a bit difficult to find real-life players to play Axis and Allies Revised (the online community is pretty good, but that’s another story). The game requires a lot of setup time, is repetitive, and runs into problems with cooperative play when your comrades don’t share the same plan as you (whether they’re just not into the game, or whether they have their own strong but wildly fluctuating ideas). For that reason, I am not sure a price tag of 100-150 is something I would be willing to meet.
I would spend 100-150 no problem if I could just PLAY the d*** thing.
Oh wait . . . someone on these boards (you knoes who you are) already said he’d send me one for free . . . :-D so I guess i don’t need to worry about the price after all . . . :lol:
To be honest, this is why bids are not needed in an FTF game with five people. The Allies are much less organized and thus less effective.

RE: Q about AA guns
@Cmdr:
I have to be honest, TripleA has not been my favorite format to use to play. Perhaps if they iron out some of the errors and get it to play nice with my laptop, and I’ll drop MapView for TripleA if they ever get national advantages incorporated!
Until then, honestly, I prefer Battlemap. Simple, quick, easy to learn, shows almost the entire board (or the entire board if you have a widescreen monitor) nice.
Yes, I do to, but TripleA has rule enforcement.
I just used TripleA and set up each of the situations. It follows the rules perfectly, with the exception of flying fighters above a sea zone to land on a new carrier.
Yeah, I noticed that too. When you use the LHTR game XML file the game will put up a dialog box asking if you want to end the movement with the fighter or keep moving. The dialog does inform you if you have a carrier purchase coming so it would appear this feature has been partially but not fully implemented. This may be fixed in the next release which is due out soon. ~ZP
Can they improve the AI as well?
