RE: HBG Themed WW2 & WW1 Dice
I am not sure by saying “I want other items please list” means anything or just related to dice but here is my small wish list:
F-86 Sabre
MiG-15
B-29 Superfortress -
RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
Only Italy can build Italian Marine Frogmen thus the stats I chose. Will give them a small advantage but not a game changer.

RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
Very clever Baron. Thank you for this!
The Tiger won’t be allowed to repair. Complicates it too much… So I think cost at 9 work well IMO.

RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
You are right. The Battlecalc shows Heavy with 2 hits it is too OP at 8 IPCs vs reg Tank at 6. 9 is the right cost to make Heavy slightly better against Tank only but a bit inferior to 1 reg Tank and 1 Inf on offense (A4 D5 C9, 2 hits)
Just curious Baron which calculator is that? All A&A calculators that I know off only have the default units programmed.
BTW Italian Marine Frogmen I like it! I am leaning towards this: Italy – Frogmen Marines – A2 D2 M1 C4 – Can be carried on a battleship or cruiser (only one unit per ship), cannot be paired with artillery
-
RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
France Foreign Legion can be a more fierced and battled hardened unit:A2 D2 M1 Cost 3 cannot get Artillery bonus. Can only be built outside Paris IC. So only built in minor IC such Southern France or Bordeaux
I like this. I had a tough time creating stats for another infantry so this is very clever.
For Russia, I don’t like militia. Ketushiya like rocket Artillery seems more iconic: Maybe Artillery combined 1:1 with MI is able to move 2 TTys on offense?
My only issue with this I have created the self propelled artillery as another unit for all Nations at A2 D2 M2 C5 increase infantry attack +1 and I am using the Katyusha unit from HBG as the Russian model.
As far as Germany - Tiger Tank - A3 D3 M2 C8 takes two hits to destroy and cannot be repaired I am thinking it’s way too powerful. I am thinking raising the cost to 9. Can’t decide…

RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
I’ve though of different dice. What I don’t want to create here is over powered Nation specific units. I want to create Nation specific units that help those Nations in some situations and also add a bit more historical flavor to the game. Dice d10, d12 or d20 will add a lot of room for unit attacking and defending variables but also complication with too many different stats.
Another reason I decided to do this is as 1940 global is slightly biased towards the Axis I am trying to balance the game with creating Nation specific units. In my Nation specific unit house rules my goal is to eliminate the “bid” process.

RE: US 30 IPC bonus question
Anyone else tried to keep this rule for Global? I like the idea of this instead of a bid for the allies.

RE: Acrylic & Spray Paints that Match '40 Unit Colors
Oh man I would love any input here.
HBG is out of stock on many units and I always buy close color alternates from them which don’t match exactly.

RE: Historical Board Gaming
HBG operates like this… he buys multiple copies of the game(s)… like 1940 Europe/Pacific, 1942SE, etc… then breaks down the game pieces and sells them individually… he does this periodically… so one day you may notice he has zero British Infantry, but the next day he has 400 (cuz he just restocked multiple copies of the game).
If someone comes along and JUST buys a ton of Tan British units, but nobody buys any other units, then he’s unlikely to buy more copies of the game till the other nationalities start selling out… so ya, he might be out of Tan British for awhile if nobody is buying the other countries.
I’ve noticed obvious “well he just purchased a bunch of 1940 Europe editions” by how much stock of certain nations jump up… then usually a couple weeks later, bam… “well he just bought a bunch of 1940 Pacific editions”.
Just keep a “notify me when unit-x is in” tagged and you’ll get notified when he restocks… give it time, he will restock.
You’re talking about Axis and Allies units. He was asking about HBG custom made units which I believe they order from China

RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
Just looking at the key concepts for which certain nations became known, I’d propose the following special units:
Germany: Heavy Tank (the Tiger is fine for this role). Alternatively, you could go with the '88 as a kind of cross between an AA gun and an anti-tank gun
Italy: Frogmen
U.K.: Battlecruiser, a kind of fast, lighter battleship
France: Foreign Legion
United States: Mechanized Infantry
Japan: Sure, the Yamato is fine. You could alternatively do a special submarine or fighter, or else simulate the Tokyo Express by allowing Destroyers to carry 1 infantry.
Russia: Militia is fine.
ANZAC: I’d give them a tougher infantry piece.Great ideas Trenacker. I like it a lot. Especially the Battlecruiser for UK and a tougher infantry for ANZAC.
Battlecruiser cost 16, attack 3, defend 3, move 2, takes two hits to destroy.
ANZAC infantry cost 4, attack 2, defend 2, move 1, attack 3 or less when paired with artillery -

@Baron Munchhausen
Insert Quote
I would probably consider both starting IJN Battleships as A5 D5 M2. 24 IPCs is a very prohibitive cost to see such units appears during gameplay. Japan had better torpedoes. Maybe Supersubmarines could better fit this special unit?
IJN Subs A3 D1 M2 Cost 6Not sure what you mean both starting IJN Battleships as A5 D5 M2. Which one is the second one?
For Russia, T-34 Tank seems to add more flexibility for player: T-34 Tank A3 D3 M2 Cost 5.
Having Russia build tanks at A3 D3 M2 C5 is overkill in my opinion as I have USA special tank unit at A3 D2 M2 C5
Germans U-boats can increase interest in ATO: U-boats: A2 D1 M2 Cost 5 IPCs.
German U-boats are a great idea as they played such a big roll in WW2 but I want to limit 1 special unit per Nation and I think the Tiger is more fun to play for Germany
UK special forces units are much more elusive to accurately fit in game. Commandos never have such impact as an army Tank division. (Attack @3, as describe) Probably better fit to be useful in amphibious assault: Uk Commando A1 D1 M1 C2, Attacks at 2 or less when paired with artillery. However, Spitfires and Battle of Britain were much more paradigmatic of UK WW2 deeds. Maybe Spitfire could be A3 D5 M4 cost 11
Agreed. I had a tough time coming up with a UK special unit.
@CWO Marc
Couldn’t agree with you more on the IS-2 green model for the US base tank. Trust me I was debating with myself for a while on this. I could order other models from HBG but for now this is what I have. As far as the Commando unit for UK I quickly came up with that name. Maybe I could change the name to Marines.
Do you have any ideas on Italy, ANZAC and France for special units?

Nation Specific (special) Units
Over the years many people on these forums and in the AA world have had discussions on ideas for new units, new unit stats, unit abilities etc.
Well here is another one.
I would like to create one unit per Nation that is only available to that Nation. The unit choice and stats will be historically accurate, not overpowered or over complicated. All existing units and stats will remain the same.
Here are my ideas:
Germany - Tiger Tank - A3 D3 M2 C8 takes two hits to destroy, cannot be repaired once hit, rest is same as a tank - Unit used OBO AA 1941 Tiger Tank or HBG Tiget Tank version
Japan - Yamato Class Battleship - A5 D5 M2 C24 same abilities as a BB - Unit used OBO Yamato class BB. Make the base BB use the IJN Kongo Class Battlecruiser model from OBO AA 1941
USA - Sherman Tank - A3 D2 M2 C5 same abilities as a tank - Unit used OBO M4 Sherman Tank. Make the base US tank something from HBG or JS-2 Tank model from OBO AA 1941
UK - British Commando - A2 D2 M1 C4 Attacks at 3 or less when paired with artillery - Unit used British Commando from HBG
Russia - Russian Militia - A1 D1 M1 C2 Attacks at 2 or less when paired with artillery - Unit used original Axis & Allies OBO Russian infantry or something from HBG
Italy - no idea yet
France - no idea yet
Anzac - no idea yetAs you see these Nation specific unit stats are not too different from base unit stats but different enough to add some flavor to strategy.

RE: Heavy Tanks *Video*
For heavy tanks here are my house rules:
A3 D3 M2 C8. Special ability - take two hits. They can’t be repaired once hit.
This way they can blitz.

RE: Starting bids/balancing the game
First dozen or so games playing against my brother taking turns choosing sides, every game was won by the Axis. There were not blow outs which made it fun and because we took turns on the sides we learned how to play both. At the end we came to a conclusion we needed to make a change in order to give the Allies a chance to win some games so we decided on 2 bid options. First option is give the Allies 9 IPC bid so they can buy units and place them anywhere on the board with the condition that there have to be Allied units on the chosen territory or sea zone. Second option is place a bomber in Moscow. You can do one or the other. This is interesting 'cause I go for the 9 IPC bid always and my brother goes for the bomber in Moscow.
This made our games pretty damn close and wins are close to 50/50. I find player skill level and knowledge of the board makes a difference. For my brother and I we are pretty close skill wise so our bid rules work well.

RE: Historical Board Gaming
Thank you CWO Marc! Your first link is exactly what I was looking for. I viewed and read it all page by page. Took me hours… There are crazy pictures from knp7765 and John Brown which make me embarrassed to post my dinky little order from HBG.

RE: Historical Board Gaming
I should be able to post pictures now that I have 10+ posts but I was thinking more of the lines if I 'm violating forum rules posting items that I purchased from the HBG website. I am by no means a sales person of HBG or try to advertise their products by posting pictures. I was thinking more of the passion I have with anything to do with Axis and Allies and help people make decisions if they would like to purchase available merchandise to make their game experience even better. Anyways I will start a topic under the customization section later today.

Historical Board Gaming
I recently purchased some units from HBG. Am I allowed to post pictures on the forum? These pictures will be comparing HBG unit colors and size with the Axis and Allies units.

RE: Global 1940 on 1942 map?
Has anyone ever tried 1940 rules/units on the 1942 map?
We have a group that enjoys to play, but 1940 is a serious time commitment that we just can’t schedule, and it seems to be taking the fun out of it (for us). When we played 1942, we could set up and play a few rounds in one night and while not always finishing, we could get a good enough sense in how the game was going to declare a victor.
We do enjoy the new pieces and rules (scrambling, tac bombers, convoys, air fields, kamakazi, shipyards) from 1940 … has anyone ever tried to use them on the older, smaller, more manageable 1942 board? any tips? any existing transfer rules? any thoughts?
Thanks everyone!
I would stay away incorporating air bases, shipyards due to number of spaces on the 1942.2 map.
Kamikazis and scrambling although fun, they will drastically change the overall strategy and dynamic of the game.
Now when it comes to mechanized infantry and tactical bombers that’s something that can be integrated with success. I haven’t done it yet but will start trying it out now that my brother and I have about 20 games under our belt and can call ourselves intermediate players. I will post results and overall outcome. In my opinion it will slightly benefit the Axis thus making it even harder for the Allies.
