      @Randmacts:

      Anyone want a game of A&A Revised. Sorry thats the last game I’ve played, havent played for a fair while and would like to have a game of that to get used to it again before playing some of the new variants.I prefer to play by forum, am in the process of downloading Abattlemap etc, just have to remember how it all works again, unless someone has the time and patience to walk me through the set up and gameplay of a new variant.

      Have you found someone? Im down for a good old 2004 revised with an axis bid. Let me know, i can play abattlemap or tripleA

      @Guppers:

      @Make_It_Round:

      Hey folks,

      Have a quick question for you. I noticed that in PBEM games the attacker generally handles the casualty choices in combat for both players. However, in some cases, where multiple rounds of combat are involved, or in some tricky naval engagements, I can see that the defender would no doubt prefer the autonomy to make these important choices. How is this difficulty generally handled?

      Best,

      MIR

      I had this exact same question so I searched the forums.  I thought I’d bump this rather than start a new thread.
      This seems like it could be a game losing factor in the naval battles he suggested.  Perhaps an opponent might choose to lose his carrier so that the fighters can fight one more round and then crash into the ocean, or perhaps he wants the opposite.  And what if you combat move into a submarine, how do you know if we wants to submerge it or sacrifice it and take down a ship.

      Even if the answers to these examples are obvious and I"m not aware, maybe noone would ever in their life sac a sub or something.  But surely there must be SOME situation where it is not appropriate for the attacker to choose casualties even if they do their best to remain unbiased.

      Sadly with PBEM or Forum play, the only way to ever handle such situation is to halt combat and ask the defender how he wants the battle to go. Generally the attacker uses his logic but when multiple choices arises, he needs to put the game on hold and ask the defender. However such decisions usually occur only 3-4 times per game

      J2 conquest would mean UK messed up big time and china did not attack or japan let them take over some 2 IPC territories.

      @Ironpat:

      Je suis prets a vous recevoir au sud de montreal pres du pont lachapelle dans chomedey
      pres du metro Montmorency mais je ne veux pas de joueurs Aggresifs je prefere meme prendre un verre avec vous avant de vous recevoir avec tout ce qui se passe de nos jours j’ai des antennes Tu peux avoir 16 ans ou 70 ans être blanc noir Asiatique ca c’est correct je veux juste ouvrir mon chez moi un 5 et demi a du monde gentil en premier …. J’ai la nouvelle version de A & A 1942 second edition avec les  AAA guns .

      Je viens de l’acheter également et je suis loin d’être aggresif! En fait, je suis un peu trop calme alors que mon allemagne se fait envahir de tout les cotés! Je dirais que le plus gros défaut des joueurs de A&A, c’est de se frustrer quand les dés ne vont pas de leur cotés. Mais Axis and Allies doit etre vu comme le poker ou autre jeux de chance; le long terme…

      Je serais partant de faire une game, je vit au centre ville de montreal. Idéalement il faudrait trouver deux autres personne, je trouve que A&A se joue idealement a quatre, mais 1v1 c’est quand meme bien le fun!

    • RE: 42.1 vs 42.2 Map?

      First of all, i know its early but im almost certain Allies need a bid, albeit a small one. The gencon tournament saw bids go towards the allies, not the axis at almost all games. Two elite players facing each other, i believe Allies need an 6-9bid to a) buy a destroyer for the US or UK/ 1inf in egypt and 1 art in russia. In fact 9 could have 3 inf, or 1sub+1inf buys as well. I know Japan is in a tough spot, but Germany starts off incredibly better then before, even if Africa is tougher. Germany can wipe the US and UK fleets entirely on GER1, with a casualty of about 1 plane and 2-3 subs. After that UK needs to either help Africa by sending guys from India(but japan can hit stronger now…) But bids are always more fun anyway and balance is not the point of this thread…

      On a side note, the picture of the 1942.2 setup on the axis and allies homepage is missing a crucial transport and destroyer in sz61
      The map is MUCH better. The more territories in asia is what 1942 absolutely need. Its longer to go through china(more territory to grab on the way), and 1 more territory from Manchuria to Moscow via the russian lands.

      Eastern europe is alright, although not a big fan of that ridiculously big west russia which is overly important.

      Western Europe is awesome. The double drop zone (finland-norway),(france-netherland),(balkans-Italy) is a real game changer and puts the axis in a different situation where they will have to play the counterattacking game instead of the stacking defense(which is always more pleasant anyway).

      Africa is slightly more advantageous now to the allies, because of the extra territories, it will take longer for germany to conquer it, thus giving more time for the US to help.

      I don’t know why people say Pearl Harbor cannot be done anymore - don’t forget that the Japanese sub is now absolutely untouchable with the new rules and can always go for Pearl Harbor. You can get 3 fighters(9), 1 bomber(4), 1 cruiser(3), 1 sub(2) and 1 AC(1) (grand total of 19) VS sub(1),destroyer(2),AC(2),fighter(4) (Grand total of 9).

      Dont forget AC defends at 2 and Sub defend at 1 in 1942.2. Transports do not participate in battle. For those wondering how you can get 3 fighters in pearl harbor btw, it assumes you will land 2 fighters on the AC and 1 fighter on Wake island. Even if you lose the 2 fighters and the AC on the US counter attack US would lose at least on average 1 fighter and the destroyer.

      I think KGF and KJF are both viable and its hard to see a ‘‘better’’ option.

      Good game, happy i bought it, much needed refreshment from the 1942 revised i played the hell out.

      On a side note, allowing America to buy 1 inf per turn and place it in green china territory is an awesome house rule that should be used everytime. Adds a lot of fun to the game.

      Generally when the stack of infantry bought in Round 1 gets in Ukraine(round 3), therefore round 4 is when caucasus goes down. If things didn’t roll well, i might have to hit west russia instead and then hit caucasus in round 5.

      @Hobbes:

      @adaptation:

      Sinking German BB TRN is a very solid move if you kept egypt. This pretty much secures Africa which is a major point.

      Attacking the Japanese BB,CV,2FTR is NEVER a good move without the egypt fighter and even that isn’t that great

      Sending both the australian fleet and indian fleet on the japanese fleet gives this:

      2Cruiser,1FTR,1AC,1sub,2trans (12 in attack value) vs 1BB,1AC,2FTR(15 attack value).

      While the 2 transport can take some damage, it is still not worth it.With the egypt fighter, its 15 vs 15(in rolling value), but at least you get to absorb two shots with your transports. However you leave egypt empty(and the german fleet intact).

      Last time I checked the rules, transports are still the last unit removed during battles, both for the attacker and the defender…

      So they are not part of combat at all - like in AA50?. I guess my OG Axis and Allies habits made me bypass these rules.

      Forget my entire post then…

      While you can always attempt to take out the egyptian fleet with your cruiser in sz14(south of france) and your UK bomber(fairly risky). Then again, you still have egypt with only 1 infantry(you move the transjordan inf to egypt).

      All of this is assuming Germany tried and failed a G1 Egypt attack. If they stacked up for a G2 attack, the whole thing takes a different turn(which i won’t get into here).

      Back to the pacific fleet - If Germany gets egypt, most of the time you should try to get it back using your transport and fighter from india. Fighter(from india)+UK bomber+Cruiser in sz14 can take out German fleet.

      The rest of the fleet, as boring as it seems, should stack up in sea zone 30(the seazone where the indian and australian fleet can meet, near Antarctica!). From there the play defense and try to drop on Japanese Islands or go towards the med, depends on what Japan does, as well as the US plan.

      I somewhat disagree - it’s a simpler version of G40, for a much faster game that won’t last as long. It helps for more beginning players.

      Nice post OP - i will soon get Europe/Pacifc and i was looking for this. BTW how big are the euro/pac boards together? I assume much smaller then the AA40 Euro/Pac board?

      Im down for a game of AA Revised (except that my board as a few extra Victory city’s written with horrible hand writing… :-( :-( ). Makes the game better but whatever.

      Anyway, im down to play most of the Axis and Allies, although if it’s any of the tactical ones(d-day, bulge or guadalcanal), i might need to read the rules cause im not too familiar with those. Is there a place in montreal where people can meet to play? Iv’e seen a couple of shops where people can meet up and play, but i have not seen axis and allies player in particular.
